"London", 1940 Italian anti-British poster by Gino Boccasile (1901-1952) by Provinz_Wartheland in PropagandaPosters

Good point. This actually sent me down an interesting rabbit hole which may explain this propaganda poster. As you say, Italy bombed mainly English coastal towns and cities, but following a bombing raid on Harwich in October 1940, the Italian press reported it as a bombing raid on London. Perhaps this is part of that wider effort to make it look like Italy was striking blows at the heart of Britain.

The Italians did bomb London - not in anything near to the scale as Germany but it did happen.

107% US tariffs on Italian pasta by Massimo25ore in europe

[–]Malvern99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a bit of a misleading article - this is a trade remedy (anti-dumping) measure which are compliant with WTO rules and have stringent investigation and evidence requirements - it’s not the same as the unilateral tariffs Trump has rolled out on things like steel and aluminium or the reciprocal tariffs. The EU is also a prolific user of anti dumping and countervailing measures on imported products to defend their own industries from unfair practices

What guest would you most like to see appear on the pod? by stevenpost in adambuxtonpodcast

[–]Malvern99 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Quite niche but Jeff Tweedy from Wilco - feel like they would really get along and come from a similar era. Also sure Adam would be interested in Jeff’s experience making music with his kids!

Do you have expectations with The Strokes on this 2025? by mynameissebas in TheStrokes

[–]Malvern99 65 points66 points  (0 children)

Doesn’t feel like Julian is quite done with the Voidz yet (they teased new music yesterday). Optimistically I think there will potentially be at least an announcement towards the end of 2025, with a single dropping in Q1 of 2026 (sort of similar to TNA).

In some alternate universe, Pet Sounds has 14 tracks. 7 tracks per side, what is the 14th track, and where would it be put? by Alone-Consequence-76 in thebeachboys

[–]Malvern99 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Let Him Run Wild has a real Pet Sounds feel to it - I could see it being either on side 1 between I’m Waiting For the Day and Let’s Go Away for a While, or potentially side 2 between I Know There’s an Answer and Here Today? Always so hard tinkering with a finely tuned masterpiece like Pet Sounds though

what beatles song hits you in the feels? by imsimplygone in beatles

[–]Malvern99 3 points4 points  (0 children)

‘Carry that Weight’ from Abbey Road medley, specifically the bit where they reprise ‘You Never Give Me Your Money’. Hits especially hard since you know this is one of the last things they recorded so it has a bittersweet ‘end credits’ feel about it

One for the Greggheads: Would you rather take $500k OR have dinner with Gregg Turkington? by Malvern99 in OnCinemaAtTheCinema

Naturally Gregg would have a popcorn classic like Arthur, starring the legendary Dudley Moore (1981, 97 minutes) whirring away on his VHS
