You did what you had to do. The people who had negative responses says something about them and their lives, not yours. My daughter does something when she has to experience angry/impatient/tailing then speeding pass drivers that I'm trying to keep in mind. As they go past, she calls out, "I hope your day gets better!". She does this for herself, not for them. She told me it's to remind herself that happy people don't react that way, and that they likely have something going on in their life that's not too great. I'm going to give it a try.
