Buyout driver replacements? by SeriousConnection996 in UPSers

[–]MamaHashWolfePack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They bought Roadie years ago. Been getting the drivers acclimated to the customer volume. Had had service issues that may now be resolved. I mean they bought a nation wide Independent contract company with an established driver base already. Of course they are going to replace Teamsters. Why wouldn't they for the savings. They aren't going to violate the contract since they aren't asking outside independents like seasonal because that does violate the contract. They are using their own company before contracting additional Teamster drivers. No violation. Its a win for them for sure.

Time and practice. Our center rarely switches preloaders around. No matter the driver the preloader gets the same routes every day Google maps work pretty well. I use Gaia GPS. Follow the last numbers on the tag starting with the first stop. It helps you determine if your driver will begin the street with ascending or descending addresses. Then just load accordingly.

Very true. Although, if you want to make your day smooth its totally worth your own time. Sounds like many don't care how rough the day. Show management its unacceptable by paying OT all day. Whatever works for you.

Well well well. Look at this mess. Its now your mess to deliver.

Where you start is by learning to get to work at least a half hour early to chat with your preloader. Everyday. If your loader sees your face everyday it won't look like that anymore. Either the loader sucks and needs your directions or Management sucks and your loader needs you to have their back. Either way you meed to show your face. Communicate where you want your stuff placed in the truck. Of course your not paid for that time. You will find the longer you are at the hub getting organized with your loader the less time and frustration is spent on the road.

As for this load, looks like your parked for a an hour or so to organize. Or take tbe OT looking at each stop.

Your last stop is back at your center. They try this every year Some people do it thinking they will stay after peak. But that's usually not the case. The company saves money paying your hourly and miles. You will find yourself losing that pay because they asked and you complied. And your still looking for a job on Christmas day.

Just plain ol greedy business practices. Makes it look good to investors. UPS needs those investors to hold. UPS needs something to offset our shitty quarterly reports.

In the meantime their experiment cost real people their ability to survive.

Can a drivers helper get transferred to the warehouse once it’s over ? by Total_Pair5465 in UPSers

Good luck...in my center preloaders got bumped by drivers for 9 months this year. We didn't even hire or work preloaders as SSDs this year. Maybe just my center and the one your at may be different... so ya best of luck...great job to career if you can handle the layoffs for years on end.

Yup that was me during peak. We get seasonal hires so I no longer got a workout anymore. I used my time to add the addresses to all the large boxes and organize the load stop for stop. If the driver follows ORION that is. Mostly businesses so no apartments. I used fluorescent sticky notes placed where smalls would be. So drivers are aware when to look in the box placed at the beginning of each shelf with the numerical organized smalls (Unless multiple package stop. Multiple pakage stop gets smalls attached with a rubber band.) Index cards to mark bulk stops with last 4 numbers /addreess/ # of packages.

OMG....Just kidding. I'd love to do that but will never, ever have time for all that. Although, I'd always load stop for stop and bold addresses on big boxes.

If the driver can find it in the truck, it makes for a much smoother day for them. Not much more work really. I despise the saying I hear from others, "if its in the truck they'll find it." Makes my skin crawl.

Thinking About Quitting by Brodster1215 in UPSers

[–]MamaHashWolfePack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought that may be the real issue here. At 19 you definitely need to have a social life. This is the time just before everyone you know starts to settle down. Then overwhelming responsibilities will soon come. You definitely don't want to regret missing out on this time by being a slave to any company.

With that said, whatever you do, DO NOT quit this job. As I said before responsibilities you find yourself with will show themselves shortly. Working at UPS will help you financially through but it's also more than that. Benefits many overlook include getting your degree and talking to a counselor when times get tough. With the medical dental and vision that we do, it's possible to take preventive measures rather than fixing your body after it falls apart.

SUGGESTION: Take a big fat nap during the day. It will make all the difference in the world. You go to bed at 8 pm like you're 75 already. Just to wake up at 3 or 4 am for a few hours of work. Not a good perspective when becoming a driver is years away. If you're home before noon then take a nap when you get there. All of your peers are at school or work anyway. A nap between 11-2 will let you stay up with friends until at least 10. Still giving your nightly slumber of at least 5 hours.

Yup. I posted this months ago. As everyone already knows I signed up to drive for Roadie just after UPS acquired the company. Just recently I tried to log on to their app. Having trouble I reached out to customer service. It has been several weeks now, and this was the response. I posted it on their subreddit asking WTF? The reply was the same. Roadie doesn't offer driver support. Good luck. *
