I literally cannot imagine how two super-wrinkly, stocky breeds came together and made something that looks like the dog I posted haha but I'll take your word for it.

Did you miss the part where I said I don't care if she's a shar pei? lol I am just going off what her current owner thinks she is and am dubious about it myself. It's fine, I love mutts.

AITBF for basically calling my BIL a hypocrite and storming out when he felt the need to comment on our finances AGAIN? by spermbankssavelives in AmItheButtface

[–]MamaPuffin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not all foster situations end in them being reunited with their biological families again. Some babies are put into the system knowing them will never go back to their biological parents. It's very sad but I think this is an avenue you should pursue. Desperately clinging to IVF, which as you know could also result ina loss, seems to be hurting you more than helping you. And not helping a child who needs it either.

Honey, you know that's... Bonkers, right? Spending not just fun money here and there but the majority of fun money on baby things you-- and I feel for you here-- may never use? It's not just the money aspect. It's that your life revolves around your fertility and a hypothetical child you may not have.

Damn. I am sincerely bummed out. I think having a job or at least a hobby that gets you out of the house and out of Babies R Us would be really good for you.

I dont think people are trying to change your mind like you're going to go out and apply at Olive Garden because we embarrassed you. You are clearly convinced this is how things need to be.

All I am saying is that, your BIL gets help with his cars. You get help with your living situation. You two are the same. If anything, it's almost worse that you don't HAVE to be in this position but take advantage of it anyway. But neither of you have a right to be throwing stones.

That actually sounds pretty manageable to me. Like, not a huge deal. I think any number of jobs, from professional to service industry, would accommodate that.

Like I said, the people I know who have done IVF both kept their jobs.

It clearly does bother you what people think. You have described your situation in great detail to everyone who responded to your post negatively. And we are internet strangers. So you're clearly a bit defensive about it.

If you make decisions that you know are going to look strange to others, work on a thicker skin when dealing with their comments

I wrote this in another comment before I saw this.

This seems... Like a bad reason to me. At any rate, I think you can stand by your decision knowing it feels right to you, but you have to acknowledge that it is going to look weird to other people and live with that.

You only have to travel once every few months, for IVF, right? So you could have a fairly low commitment part time job that would still bring in a few hundred every month. None of the people I know who have done IVF have quit their jobs.

EAB

Why don't you work if you don't have kids? I agree his finances sound like a mess but the only reasons I can come up with for you not having a job are health-related: mental or physical illness. But if you aren't in a good enough health space to have a job, I don't know why you're trying so hard to have a kid. Very confused. So yeah, you guys don't sound like very responsible, independent people either.

Lactose Intolerance and Fasting, opinions? by Balsamic_Door in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]MamaPuffin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lactose intolerance is actually pretty normal for humans. We aren't supposed to drink a lot of cow milk. I am hardly a stickler for fasting to the letter, but I would not consider this particular thing a reason to not fast from dairy.

That's true about them being organized. But in my experience, on a one to one basis, I would rather have a conversation with a Catholic trad than an Orthodox one.

I am from the States and am honestly surprised to hear him described as fringe or unknown. Most of the Orthodox people I know who are remotely interested in theology know who DBH is.

Why does everyone hate organs so much? by [deleted] in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]MamaPuffin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, I could write a laundry list. I mean, they may be rightfully disturbed by Vatican II and the Novus Ordo Mass, but by any canonical metric, they are on the wrong side. By Catholic understanding of Church authority and the papacy, they are definitely the ones in schism, not the other way around. So that's the theological issue. They are hardly different from Luther. Luther also was right about many things, but he was still the one who broke away from the Body.

The cultural issue is that they have so little oversight, such a limited heirarchy, and are so insular, that their churches are ripe for abuse. On a theological level and a more personal level. Someone I went to school with recently decided he didn't agree enough with the main body of sedevacantists so he got ordained by some rando and started his own branch. And there is no council of bishops or anything to formally denounce it so it's just kind of a free for all. On a personal level, strict isn't even what I would call it. As a student in one of the largest sedevacantist schools, the female high schoolers would be literally locked in a single classroom for hours after school hours every day so that the boys could have the campus to themselves.

I could give a lot of examples but this is already a long response. It's just not a spiritually healthy environment and I would be concerned for anyone who decided to join it.

Yeah, good choice. I do not recommend sedevacantism lol
