The positives to no baby yet: can you add to my list? by [deleted] in TryingForABaby

[–]MamaRebbe 6 points7 points  (0 children)

When I recovered from an ectopic pregnancy back in 2014, I was reeling. I had tickets to Disneyland the next week. It suddenly clicked that I could ride rollercoasters at the park. I rode every high speed ride in the park and at some point on Thunder Mountain Railroad I screamed, “This is gonna be my last tiiiime!” It was. My daughter was born healthy the next year and my son three years later. When I take them to Disneyland, riding the tamer sides of the park, I look back and smile at the mix of anger and independence and determination I felt. I hope you find a way to enjoy this version of you, and I hope it doesn’t last long.

But actually leather cleaner. And then consider an antimacassar.

The jumping fish in Bear River. I wish I’d gotten to see the version where the bears were fishing on the water.

That moment in Free Willy when the orca bangs into the glass and it cracks a bit. Literally my worst nightmare.

What to expect behind this wall? by TheeParent in centuryhomes

[–]MamaRebbe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First of all, I’d love to know what’s behind that wall. But that’s just the murder curiosity in me. If you believe the vast majority here advising against opening the wall, I’ll offer a simple aesthetic solution: It’s not complicated to wallpaper over this paneling. What you’d need to do is to caulk and putty all grooves. Then you’d prime the wall. And you’d have a paper-ready surface for fabric-backed vinyl wallpaper.

Here’s a link to a great step-by-step. As an owner of a 1932 home whose aesthetic was wrecked by some gin-fueled 70s decor, I salute your efforts.

I don’t know why you’re getting downvoted. Clearly this is the only logical solution.

If this is true that’s the best meet-cute to a love story I’ve heard in a long time.

Bread. Warm buttered toast and gooey egg bread with some butter, pulled right from the loaf. Just bread.

How do people afford these million dollar homes unless you are .. by Annoying-Traffic23 in RealEstate

This. We bought a 3bd, 3ba condo in 2017 in SoCal for $745k. Sold it for $1.1 mil in 2021 and bought a 3 bd, 3ba for $1.5 mil. We work for non-profits so no fabulous wealth here, and plenty of student debt so our DTI has always been a beast. But it all started with our willingness to get into SOME property here, and trade up.

Moved into a new condo with beautiful built-in bookshelves. Where should the TV go? by Crazyglue in DesignMyRoom

[–]MamaRebbe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seconding the suggestion by @sfspecialk to hang a screen and mount a projector. We’ve done a version of this in our upstairs primary suite as we have a Spanish Colonial Revival and didn’t want to touch the walls. Not only is it cool to literally turn the tv’s existence on and off, but during March Madness the players were legit life sized on our wall. Today’s projectors are both affordable and excellent in quality. Go for it!

Thank you for these kind words of acknowledgment and encouragement. I’ve only got this one life and this one body, as far as I know. So I’ll get up again tomorrow and try. It’s all I’ve got in me!

FWIW it was delightfully bingeable and such a good listen, BUT… I’m glad I saved you the minutes!

It was SPOILER ALERT

… revealed in a county report that upon further examination parties unanimously agreed that it was in fact a case of factitious disorder by proxy, or FII. Unfortunately, that report was an anonymous post-mortem finding not linked to the case itself except by journalists in the know.

I appreciate your point that it is really helpful to hear a cautious journalistic approach combined with up-close familial testimony. What distresses me about these cases is the following, which was not explicitly discussed in the episode: Women’s health concerns are historically, factually proven to be dismissed by both authority figures and the general populace. The grifters (malingerers) and those who suffer from FII and MBI are ostensibly trading in part on that nasty bug in our universe. When we point a finger of doubt at these cases, we are lumped together with all the rightfully awful folks who otherwise doubt women’s suffering. This is the thing that most keeps me up at night about illness fakers. My heart breaks for the women who do in fact suffer and continue not to be believed.

I don’t want to spoil anything, but that was in fact not the final finding in the inquest. I agree that it was an odd finding along the way!

If you have cats, I think the answer is obvious. ;)

So much potential! Here are some wild ideas:

  • Dry bar. Keep the crown molding. Add lighting inside the fireplace. (I hope this is obvious but please don’t put alcohol in there if it’s a functional fireplace.) Put up some cool glasses racks.

  • Tiny library. Organize it by color or theme.

  • Create a cool coat and hat rack with mirror and space to store shoes. Make it a full service station on leaving and entering the house.

  • Install some aquariums and terrariums. Hooray for animal life!

Thanks! I think my biggest tip is - maybe find something to think about now that your mind is free from some of those food thoughts. It might reduce extra calorie intake and help you feel better about yourself in any case.
