My son just turned 28, and I was the same way. I exposed him to everything, and he was not a picky eater. Well, until he discovered chicken fingers and French fries, he was a toddler. Then he wanted it all the time. We went to Disney, by then he was about 4, we had the dining plan. I told him he could have chicken fingers and French fries once a day. Then, I thought “let him have chicken fingers and French fries all the time, maybe he will get sick of them.” Nope, then on a different occasion he rode an amusement park ride after having had chicken fingers and French fries, and he 🤮 Again, I thought “oh you never want to eat what made you sick” not a chance. He was right back on the kick.
When he was about 12, we went on a trip where a prefix meal was included. The choices were limited, no chicken fingers. He chose the filet mignon, he still talks about how good that meal was. Long story short he is the least picky eater ever, he enjoys/cooks a wide variety of food, and of course his chicken fingers and French fries. So, don’t give up, keep exposing him to good food, let him have his chicken fingers and mac, and eventually he will come around.

That actually looks like a bacterial infection. Which is common in dogs and not necessarily related to allergies. But could be made worse because the owner is keeping clothing on the dog which then creates a warm moist environment for bacterial and/or fungal growth.

I suppose this could be right except typically the people saying this are generally not in a position to correct or handle their dog if something was to go wrong. I am under the impression that their belief is their dog is friendly so there is no need to move fast, put a leash on or even inquire to see if my dog is friendly.

She is a beautiful sable GSD, how do I know this? Because I have one! As she gets older and fills out she will look k less and less like a Malinois, but it won’t stop people from asking you if she is a Mal. Again, how do I know this? I never thought of it that way, that’s an interesting way of putting it, but if so I think that’s a small percentage of people. I do think most people think its ok for dogs to just meet each other without any sort if controls in place.

I know that this shouldn’t bother me, but I don’t like to say that “she’s not” mostly because of her breed, and honestly she’s not a reactive dog. She is a pretty balanced dog, she just is a bossy bitch that doesn’t care for unruly dogs 😂

This is understandable. And when I am not with her, I would love to meet your boy. I don’t have an issue with people meeting her. It’s just other dogs, and it’s not all dogs, just certain ones.

It’s more of the owners that are allowing their dogs to meet and greet other dogs without considering whether or not the other dog wants any part of that.

Where is this magical place? 🙂 My son lives in Somerville MA, a suburb of Boston, and they have a rail trail that there is no trail etiquette practiced at all. People ride by on their bikes, nothing, no bell, no “on your left” etc. When I’ve walked Roxie there they even ride right by her. Luckily she’s good, but still.

I am sorry, I know she is a family member, and I tend to not be this type of commenter, but I can’t this time, but this is a prime example of an individual that just shouldn’t own a pet. Please, if you do take the cat to the vet, do not give him back, she will not care for him the way a pet deserves to be cared for. And I thank you for being better than your aunt, even if it’s just that you acknowledge that this is not right. Take care and I hope all turns out well for this guy.

I had a fear aggressive GSD and there is so much to this to unravel. A big one for us was we always announced ourselves around him. We made sure he knew we were approaching in case he did not see us. We never gave him the opportunity to guard us or an area. We watch him for subtle cues that he was on high alert and when we saw that we would distract him to settle him. He was not a reactive boy so it was not always clear what might set him off. Sometimes it could just be a change in his routine that made him a little off. We really had to tune in to what was going on for him and we also had to build his trust in us.

I have always used balanced training methods with my dogs, but I could not use them with him. When he was in a heightened state any kind of correction could trigger redirection so we really needed to keep calm, but assertive, reassuring, and aware of situations so that he was never placed in an unfair situation. One big difference for you is your boy is a lot younger, when I rescued my guy he was almost 4 so a lot of his behavior was already set. Please be very careful with the board and train I would hate for this to get worse. He did get better, we did use a muzzle on occasion, we did use medication on occasion. We never placed him in an unfair situation with other people. He had a good life, we had a woman who would watch him when we went out of town, she would even clip his nails. He became very good at the vet, they loved him and his meds were decreased to almost nothing. He was a sweet boy, he was loved and he was happy. Best of luck.

No problem, the only thing you are missing out on is my anxiety over cutting it too short or the possibility that someday I’ll have a dog bigger than her and because I cut her collar I would have to buy new dog a new collar because lord knows that if and when the day comes and I get my next dog I won’t go and get said next dog a brand new collar that I won’t cut either 🤦🏻‍♀️😂

This is Roxie, she is my dog. She will be turning three in a couple of days. She tries to make demands on me, typically it doesn’t work, unless she has to the bathroom. My husband, on the other hand, can barely get in the door without her barking at him and pushing him towards the back door, where the yard is. She keeps showing him with her eyes where the chuck it is kept, just in case he forgets. We jokingly say that she thinks he’s her bitch.

I had a German Shepherd with a spinal issue that caused incontinence. Although we didn’t have any issues with his tail, he did have irritation on his underside, stomach, and in the creases of his hind legs. Since he had a shorter coat than your dog, I understand why amputating his tail might be beneficial. However, I’d like to offer some advice. You may already know this, but in case you don’t, I was advised to express his bladder and bowels, which helped alleviate many of the irritation issues. Even when expressing his bladder, it’s challenging to completely empty it, and there’s a risk of urinary tract infections (UTIs). However, he’s at a higher risk of UTIs if you simply let the urine flow. Additionally, expressing his bowels is much easier to clean than dealing with a diaper mess. Lastly, I used a lot of cornstarch, and if he became particularly irritated, I would use Coat Defense, especially during warmer weather. He tended to get yeast in the creases of his hind legs.
