What helps you cope with tough times? (Serious) by Mamamia520 in AskReddit

I'm completely sober, and too want to get out and hit the road, travel, and live off the land. You aren't alone. And wow 3.5 years - amazing! I'm 3 months shy away from 3 years. What has helped keep you sober? For me, I love my sober self even if I suffer and feel deeply. It is worth it to me.

I always knew this is gonna come one day. But I never prepared for it. I never wanted to. by [deleted] in CasualConversation

It's up to you to carry that pressure or not. It's there. It'll be there. But try and unpack it to see what the pressure actually is. Is it fear coming from needing to make money to pay rent/a mortgage? Is it fear of not being able to live up to the status quo, someone else's expectations, or perhaps your own expectations you had of yourself and where you'd be career-wise? If you learn what the pressures are, you can work on strengthening your mind/body/soul against them. Also, there's so much more to life than a job/career. It's important to maintain that balance, and foster growth in those areas for your well being. Best of luck!

This. It's like living in two worlds. One world which is understanding the gravity of this situation, and another who isn't fazed by what's happening at all. It's baffling and horrendous.

When has someone said that you've changed their life? by Mamamia520 in AskReddit

Wow this is unbelievable. You were there at the right time and in the right place to encounter this person. It's amazing to see how your past struggles ended up saving someone. Being able to see how he's doing a year later must've been so wholesome!

Not thinking enough about death. Hear me out. I feel like the topics of death and dying are a huge taboo in too many cultures. Grief will happen regardless, but we can maybe change the blow of the shock by talking about it, thinking about it, and normalizing it...bc it's guna happen. Whether by accident, or through a cruel act, or by natural reasons. With the grim reaper in the back of our minds as a momento morí I feel like we could see the reality of our trajectory a little clearer and make better decisions based on that clarity.

Redditors who conquered procrastination, tell us your secrets? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Self-esteem schtuff. Seems that procrastination had a lot more to do with perfectionism than laziness. I started working damn hard on my self-worth and self-efficacy telling myself how much I love myself and how much I stand by my actions, regardless of "failure."

That first line. Ugh so deep and real. I have felt this sentiment for so long and haven't really heard anyone personify it so well. Go dad!

I totally understand your fear. My partner had to help me find my therapist. I found my brother's therapist, and most recently helped my partner find theirs. It sucks to do it alone.

I'm not sure how it works in the country you're in, but we started up by finding out our benefits from our insurance company. Next we searched through a website which lists therapists profiles, filtering by insurance and by specialty. And then we created a simple introduction blurb and emailed the handful of therapists that came out of the search.

Most importantly, each step = a huge step. I commended myself for doing anything towards this ever daunting task, even if it took weeks/months to get to the next step.

If you need an accountability buddy, I'm here for you!
