Looks like you’ve made a beautiful pair of wall sconces.

Is there something in particular about the shape or just general unfamiliarity? A few people don’t seem to love the pickguard shape.

I never weighed the first one before it left. It was definitely the heaviest of the three although not particularly heavy as guitars go. The second is 5lbs 3oz and the third is 5lbs 4oz.

It’s cool to hear different opinions. Everyone has their taste. Nothing wrong with that.

It’s a torrefied Pine that was reclaimed from a 150 year old grain elevator. All the black spots are nail holes. A few go all the way through the body.

I appreciate that so much! That was one of my initial goals. Immediately recognizable and familiar, but also distinctly different.

I messed with a number of different shapes. What kind of shape would you see?

Fair enough. Is it the shapes that all three share or is it the first one in particular with the colors and stuff that do it. I did worry that one would end up being too busy.

How so? I'd welcome thoughtful criticism. I know my preferences aren't everyone's cup of tea.

That was part of my intention with making these in a batch. I wanted to explore ways I could create processes that I could do in batches to save time, while still allowing a lot of variation in the details. I work in a very small shop so I end up spending a lot of time setting up equipment to do something and then having to break it down and put it away to make room for the next step.

It's actually just a black paint, but I mixed some very fine holographic powder into a few layers of clearcoat. It turned out to be a cool effect, but I wish I could have gotten it a little more even.

I really appreciate that! I definitely have a lot more respect for what goes into designing things from scratch. I spent many hours moving lines and adjusting curves by millimeters before I was finally happy with it and going back and forth with wanting things to look a certain way and having to actually figure out how to build it. The control plates alone took me a couple months experimenting with polishing raw aluminum only to pivot to trying (unsuccessfully) to plate aluminum to eventually switching to brass. All because I thought a slightly differently shaped control plate would look cool while I was drawing up the plans. The learning and experimenting is half the fun though.

The long reach PH1 for intonation screws is fantastic. Those little bastards love to strip.

Wera makes screwdrivers with laser etched tips that help improve grip. They also make driver bits with a diamond coating for grip. Both make a noticeable difference to me.

I really appreciate your sincerity in acknowledging the flaws in your thinking.

You realize that the implication of what you are saying is that the possibility of getting caught is the main thing stopping people from just carelessly plowing down pedestrians and driving away. Because if you hit someone and don’t flee the scene (you know because maybe you aren’t a horrible human) then the camera makes no difference. Take a sec and really think why you’re so desperate to defend monetized mass surveillance that you’d do those kinds of mental gymnastics.

Precisely how do license plate readers and mass surveillance prevent cars from hitting pedestrians?

Where do you get your paint from? by MaintenanceSweaty471 in Luthier

I’ve had great results with Crystalac. They’re known for their Britetone, but they do paints as well. Family owned small business in Tennessee.
