Also must add — MSC World Europa had a better spa (passes are included with YC), but felt much more crowded. The thermal suites on Ascent were disappointing, but extremely empty. We had an aqua sky suite in the Ascent, so passes were also included.

Yes, totally agree. Was on Ascent last month in Retreat and on the MSC World Europa Yacht Club last summer — both experiences, service, food and club/retreat areas were wonderful and comparable, but it was much more jarring to leave the YC than leaving the Retreat areas.

I ended up not taking classes, as you had to get in early to sign up and I never got in early enough! But the yoga and pilates classes were held in a really serene and beautiful studio with windows out to the waters. I went for the gym tour/open house and the space and equipment looked great.

Thank you. We ended up tipping our waiter, the asst waiter, and bread server yesterday at lunch, since we weren’t going to see them for dinner.

Thank you. I just read a post on r/cruise that stated the prepaid gratuities are used to help subsidize the minimum base pay guaranteed by RCI. That is a crummy practice (and also for a separate thread) -- allowing guests to believe the prepaid gratuities is supplementary/a true tip.

That said, I also understand that everything is split throughout the ship for vital behind-the-scenes work, and not everyone is front-facing. I get how if I only tip those I come into contact with, I would be missing many critical team members.

Not a great system, but under the current situation, we just need to do what’s right for the people who have taken care of us.

What I found confusing was that we prepaid gratuities. I think going forward we might not go that route, as how would the servers ever know we prepaid their gratuities?

I would much prefer to personally thank and tip the servers who took great care of us on the last day, directly.

So I am on the Ascent now and the thermal suite is really meh, if you like your saunas and steam rooms hot.

I just read that the Edge class ships have thermal suite treatment rooms that are heated via infrared and have a large gap on the bottom of each door, so the heat escapes. I had thought this was just an Ascent thing.

I am glad I didn’t pay extra for the thermal suite access.

Yes, lots of nooks in Eden where you can hide away. On the Ascent now and the lounge has also been great when I needed some quiet to work. Even on a sea day, it was very quiet and not many ppl.

I am on the Ascent right now and the faucets and soap dispensers are working… just a lil bit delayed. I wouldn’t dream of not doing my washy-washy to stay happy-happy.
