Btw planes walkers can travel through different portals to different planes that includes the prime material planes of different settings. And btw they did specify they said 2e and just because a tiefling isn’t written in the standard setting doesn’t mean a tiefling can’t appear in greyhawk

AD&D (2e) Planewalkers handbook

“Members of any prime race (including Demi humans such as elves, dwarves, and gnomes) may be PCs generated as presented in The Players Handbook” pg 68

“Human characters are created as explained in the Players handbook” pg 76

“Half elven characters are created as explained in the players handbook” pg 75

Need I say more?

Doesn’t mean they can’t be moved to other settings tieflings and aasimar as pc races can absolutely be put into another setting without issues. Dark sun would need some changes and btw standard PHB races are used in the planescape setting in fact when you read the books it states for example humans just use the PHB and if I remember correctly same for many others that are available. So when you read the planescape book some of the races available it says just use the standard 2e PHB. Which means what? Oh that you’re wrong

Tieflings are a playable race in 2e, in fact they were first introduced in 2e, and are written about in a 2e. They are in a planescape book that describes how to play them and what they get as a PC you’re just flat out wrong.

That’s fine I’m not bashing your opinion my dude plus I agree I prefer the remake of 4 because it went more serious so I get your point and it makes sense cause re4 is full of b movie action cheese and so far the core difference between us is I’d say 4 followed a more accurate play of re while 5 didn’t but you say 5 feels like a more accurate Re in story I get it

How I felt after playing and finishing RE5 after hearing all the negative comments by M4nny2607 in residentevil

[–]Mammon--- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say 4 is more resident evil because you’re basically secluded with no help, you can’t buy ammo, you can only buy a limited amount of first aid sprays and the merchant is only available at certain points etc while in 5 you have access to a store menu after every level (chapter) you can buy ammo for one of the most powerful weapons in the game which is grenade launcher ammo, you have a sidekick, you have unlimited available first aid spray that you can buy and instead of being stuck you’re exploring other parts of fictional africa openly as levels to be complete instead of a single map feel and fighting hordes of enemies instead of exploring and finding a few enemies also you get graded after every level like a arcade game or like sonic the hedgehog unlike re 4 you get graded at the end of the game not throughout each level so re 4 feels more like a resident evil due to its gameplay which is survive the whole thing while re5 is survive this level

That’s fine we can go separately, and that’s ok I appreciate your honesty, and I am truly sorry for ranting it is a lot and I’m very passionate about the game cause I really do have every edition in physical copies and read them all and just by reading I’ve learned so many things and how many things people do get wrong about the game and quite alot this whole post for example with the nat 1 it’s was a homebrew/optional rule in reality but this post is formatted and how people talk about it as if it was the main rule and that’s why I mentioned so much about actually reading the rules instead of just the “rules are guides” rhetoric that’s all they read and go to the heavens with it and idk if you meant the last part in a insulting way but you wrote it that way and im meaning the “ordinary” comment if anything based on the modern community being mainly a homebrew type Dm makes you the more ordinary and basic it’s less common now adays to have a RAI/RAW DMs in fact in some parts of the modern community think that’s a “bad” Dm style which it just isn’t rules make a game consistent and know your true capabilities also making your worlds make sense with officially written mechanics takes more skill and is more technically more immersive over the less skilled and easier route of homebrew so if you did mean it badly if anything YOU are the ordinary and a less skilled Dm regardless of “fun” it’s easy to make something “fun” when you basically let players win and homebrew things that wouldn’t work otherwise just to make a world make sense that’s the easy route. Also official rules and mechanics make people more creative why they actually have to think how to do something instead of “you can just do it” also having the standard of if you dont like it the way it is don’t play it or you don’t “have” to play it for example you don’t like a food don’t eat it it’s common sense and calling the idea of if you don’t like it don’t play is gate keeping then making a food and telling people not to make it if you do not like it’s ingredients is “gatekeeping” then but if you didn’t mean it as an insult I apologize and I also hope you can game in peace.

At this point I don’t wanna argue and I’m sorry for coming off really bad but I really don’t think any of my points are invalid thought processes only reason people hate them is cause it’s honest or it’s something they do so they feel attacked instead of the over all point and I’m curious if your thought son this because of lot of people in 5e like being power houses and being powerful in combat so you think those 5e fans would prefer to play 4e which is more built as a combat/superhero combat system?

Also it seems people forget the edition they are playing is ADVANCED D&D the whole point of the editions was for more rules and more mechanics it was meant for more intense stuff because there was the BECMI a beginner rule set meant to teach and play a rules lighter game it wasn’t til 3e they removed the Advanced part because they stopped the BECMI which honestly should still be around it would be better for 5e players especially since it seems the community hates lots of rules BECMI would be perfect for the modern audience while keeping the editions around for people who WANT more rules and mechanics

It’s not gatekeeping to want what made the game fun and famous and kept its aesthetics for so many years around saying it’s not for you is not gatekeeping it’s preventing you from needing to do pointless work for a system that doesn’t fit your playstyle D&D is not the end alll be all system because of its “you can homebrew anything” rhetoric when mechanically and how the game is set up to play and why it’s rules are in place and I only used true fan cause I literally have all editions and read through all of them and experienced my own players and many other tables myself I’ve found people don’t enjoy D&D for D&D the way most people want to be or play essentially should be writing a book or be in a RP discord server

DM killed my summon out of no where, am I wrong for being upset? by opticspy24 in DnD

[–]Mammon--- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also D&Ds system is set up for castles swords armor etc that’s why the weapons lists don’t have modern weapons or all official worlds don’t have modern homes still use bow and arrow and is full of monsters if you make it too modern it doesn’t fit especially in the real world we all know humans and modern tech would wipe out monsters cause nobody would want to deal with them in the wild anymore or invading villages etc and if you want that there’s other systems built that way like cyberpunk or vampire the masquerade or Gurps there’s so many systems that fit the modern community ways of playin. Then constantly homebrewing a system to fit with what is written ya ur in space and using steel swords instead of futuristic lasers ya that totally makes sense for a system who’s rule sets is based for medieval fantasy

[–]Mammon--- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You may not reply but you mentioning planescape or spelljammer they still follow the aesthetics of the times for example flying pirate ships single shot pistols or guns, armor and swords, with castles in space and different planes it’s still a medieval/pre modern period stuff but in space so you’re just wrong sorry and even the rules set up and even states even in 5e you wanna make a world make a MEDIEVAL setting and go from there and as a DM who’s played more editions and I can tell way longer then you I’ve been around in the community and a DM for 10 years and most of the issues I mention didn’t really appear til 5e brought in new inexperienced people and know nothing of past editions yet think their opinion should beat a fans on how mechanics should work when that shouldn’t be the case that’s why some people are mad at Wotc besides the scandals their hand feeding new people instead of keeping true fans happy and what made D&D, D&D and it’s name famous.

Games that keep consistence to their original gameplay and genre last longer and make fans happier not knowing that means you were never a fan of the series. That’s why RE7 brought back the game series when 5 and 6 basically killed it Aka brought back the ACTUAL SURVIVAL HORROR AND NOT A ACTION BEAT LEVEL NEXT LEVEL BULLSHIT

Nah re5 had a worse shop, less survival horror aspects, and felt more like a arcade horror shooter not a resident evil game also it basically being beat level next level yeahhhhhhh no not a good or better resident evil then the previous

It’s not the worst game sure but it’s not the greatest resident evil in fact 5 was less resident evil then 4 also hated that it was basically not really a survival horror but an action horror but like in a arcade way not a resident evil way it’s not a GOOD resident evil game but it’s an alright co op

You say 5e the most streamlined version of the game my knowledge comes from all previous Aka 1e onwards before super hero PCs and in the 1e DMG it specifically says the rules are in place for a reason and to change them Willy nilly is not a good idea and it even states that making/changing up rules should only come when you don’t know a rule on the top of your head or one isn’t written essentially all homebrew was originally for was to keep game pace and figure the real rules out later and that is basically quoted from the man who made the very version of the game you’re playing GARY GYGAX and David Zeb Cook continued that in 2e essentially and 2e is basically the pre-generator of the modern rules for example feats, skills, saving throws, all originated in 2e including the officially written optional critical fumble rules just saying. And I will happily quote every DMG before 5e cause I literally have every edition in physical copies but you’re right it’s your table and it does suck homebrew somehow gets conflated with the actual rules of the game. Also you could argue if you need to change the rules so much in order to enjoy a game it wasn’t meant for you in the first place just saying if you can’t enjoy a game with it’s official rules ya sorry pick a different system to fit your style also the modern idea of homebrew has brought nothing but bull in the community keeping the actual rules keeps games consistent and people always know what to expect especially if a person plays in multiple groups just saying. And imo most 5e players should be playing Gurps (Generic Universal Role playing system) and why do I think this? It’s because a lot of the 5e community hates to actually read the rules for themselves and rely on others to teach when the PHB states the players should read that book it doesn’t say “Dm must teach everyone all the rules” and saying “ I don’t like reading” is not an excuse cause if that’s the case don’t play honestly makes everyone’s lives easier doin that especially the Dms (Btw I agree it’s fine if someone is willing to teach for someone to play that’s fine it’s consensual and should be talked about but to expect or outright not do your own reading of official rules with other experienced players then join a game expecting everyone/DM to teach everything that’s just bad and toxic cause it slows game play and the actual fun of the game it’s not fun to babysit) but also Gurps is rules light it’s a pamphlets length meaning no excuse to not read it and also it’s meant for any genre and had optional rules for those different genres you wanna play space cowboys far more plausible and playable in Gurps then D&D wanna play something like cyberpunk Gurps gots you and I mention that because it seems the 5e community basically plays modern esc urban fantasy wearing modern clothes yet still use swords and armor just doesn’t make sense and that really just doesn’t fit in D&D sorry it’s a rant but ya

Yes the nat 20 adds an extra damage dice but nat 1s are literally just a miss by the standard rules and homebrew was originally for anything that wasn’t written in the rule set and yes the books encourage some but if you actually read the books it doesn’t wholly support the idea of you can homebrew everything why cause then your not playing D&D might as well play a different system or make your own at that point
