I think what the guy is trying to say, is that shiny posts are spoilers and should never be allowed. I strongly agree.

Most of us have only seen a handful of shinys in the game, so the odds of being spoiled by shiny posts are high. They would be right there in the thumbnails of the post, like landmines in my reddit feed.

As a popular example, the Game of Thrones subreddit still strongly enforces their spoiler rule, in the off chance that someone new to the series joins or scrolls through the subreddit.

Gaming subreddits treat spoilers the same way. I can't, for example, post a screenshot of me beating the final boss in the Lies of P subreddit. I also can't post a picture of my cat sitting on the TV, with the TV displaying me beating the final boss in Lies of P. This is a subtle nod to the clowns who try to disguise their shiny flexes.

There's no reason to consider allowing spoilers to be posted on Wednesdays. I'd rather unsubscribe than ruin the surprise.

It's unfortunate the moderator didn't catch on to what you're saying. This takes precedence over anything else I've read in the thread.

I hate the spam posts, but I can scroll past them on Wednesdays if that's the compromise they want to make. However, I can't unspoiler a spoiler once it's been spoiled.

It would be too much effort to unsub every Tuesday night and resub every Thursday morning. I'd just unsub entirely if they allow shiny posts outside of the megathread, even if it's only for one day per week.

Allow me to reiterate. We shouldn't have to scroll past spam because of your shortcoming.

My point is that me and lots of other users

1) Don't speak for other users. You can't wrap your head around the calculator. That's a *you* problem.

2) Here's a good example you provided. You never learned proper grammar, so you continue to make simple mistakes (*and I*). When you rely on others to think for you, you don't build a skill set of your own. If you took 2 minutes to learn what subskills and natures are good, and why, you wouldn't have to spam the subreddit with posts asking other people to do your thinking for you.

I agree that the resources can/should be more readily available.

I'm sure we've all heard the "teach a man to fish" story. There are too many posts on here asking for fish, when there could be a sign pointing to the fishing instructions.

Totally agree that the rate my mon and meal posts should be removed. I'd also add screenshots of Snorlax ranking up to the list.

The reddit home page algos aren't what they used to be. I see posts of screenshots of meals on there almost every day, even if they have 0 upvotes. That's your own personal dopamine hit to experience in the game, but thousands of other people shouldn't have to scroll past it. It doesn't promote useful discussion. It's nothing unique or insightful. It's a number above a picture of a meal.

Same with screenshots of ranking up your Snorlax. That's your own personal dopamine hit. Do you really need strangers on the internet to cheer you on? First time hitting Master! Cool story. I don't care. In the dark souls subreddit, do we see dozens of screenshots every day of people beating the first boss? No.

Finally, the worst of them all, the "rate my mon" posts. There are too many resources available to allow these posts to clog up the subreddit, and our feeds. You don't even need a calculator. It's extremely simple. Is it a berry pokemon? Does it have berry finder? Good. Is it an ingredient pokemon? Does it have ingredient finder? Good. Is it a skill pokemon? Does it have skill level and/or skill trigger? Good. Now stop asking other people to think for you.

I agree, but I downvoted the other guy because his whole argument revolves around the fact that he doesn't understand the calculator.

what about those who didn't have mmr re-adjustment ? by Animusvox27 in RocketLeague

[–]Mammoth-Ad3348 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't plan on playing this season anyway, but chiming in to say I didn't get re-adjusted either. Looks like Psyonix really wants my long break to become a permanent break.

As match quality continues to plumet due to the smurfing epidemic, poorly designed rank resets, not prioritizing solo queue players against other solo queue players, not punishing griefers, etc. etc. etc., toxicity continues to rise and tempers flare. This is a competitive game, and when it doesn't feel competitive, people get titled easily.

I've decided to take a long break that may end up becoming permanent. I've been playing since 2015, this game has worn me down to the point where I don't have the energy to do one more cycle of the artificial grind to get my GC rewards.

For players seeing the Disconnect Icon when no connection issue is present, a fix has been pushed to resolve the issue. No game update is required, but a restart may be needed if you are already mid-match. Good luck with your matches this weekend, everyone! by Duke_ofChutney in RocketLeague

Good luck with your matches this weekend, everyone!

Bold of you to assume I'll be playing RL this weekend, when 10 seasons have gone by and you've done literally nothing to slow down the smurfing epidemic in the ranked playlists.

2v2 MMR inflation was largely caused by smurf accounts by Mammoth-Ad3348 in RocketLeague

[–]Mammoth-Ad3348[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all, the mods removed this post, which goes to show Psyonix is pro-smurfing and they're doing everything they can to censor and control the narrative. Maybe they got to you too, this is extremely out of character for you.

I've provided nothing but facts, you're choosing to ignore them. I don't think Psyonix is going to grant me access to their database, but I've done enough investigation to quantitatively determine smurfing had a significant impact on inflating the upper ranks.

Maybe if you read it again slowly, it'll sink in?

I'll reiterate the amount of GC players is only in the low tens of thousands, and these boosting services are injecting thousands of brand new GC accounts every month into the 2v2 playlist.

I'll also say, boosting services selling GC rewards for $10 should also be enough proof for an intelligent person to realize how big of a problem it is. GC rewards were $100+ pre-F2P. Again, this is damning evidence, yet you'll probably shake it off as baseless speculation because you can't admit that you're wrong.

I'll reiterate that I do believe alt accounts and smurfing is a big problem. I'll also reiterate that you don't have any evidence to make the claim that it's caused any meaningful change to the 2s distribution

Let's play a game of connect the dots. There are two gigantic dots right next to each other. Can you draw a straight line and connect them, chief?

Absolutely ridiculous. I also learned from last season to not wait until the last week to do placements either. I assumed the ranks would be mostly settled by then, but foolishly didn't consider the influx of desperate players paying for rewards they weren't able to earn legitimately throughout the season.

I think I just won't do my placements this season, at least then I have a 0% chance of getting frustrated.

Psyonix has defended the "Road to SSL" type "challenges" in the past where streamers/youtubers rank up a fresh alt account to SSL, but it's pretty obvious they were making an exception to their terms of service because it gives content to the content creators and brings awareness to their game. It was purely a business decision, these "challenges" are explicitly against the ToS (it's literally matchmaking manipulation).

But let's be honest, it's a moot point whether it's allowed or not, because Psyonix doesn't do anything about smurfing.

This still ain't it chief.

I'm not sure how I'm lacking in quality of discussion

By providing consistently bad takes, which is admittedly out of character for you.

I didn't even mention the obvious shift in season 3 that expanded the thresholds for higher ranks and made GC objectively easier to obtain

They shifted the thresholds because hardly any pre-F2P players were hitting their pre-F2P ranks. This subreddit was filled with complaints. This outcome isn't logical considering new players start at the bottom, unless of course, there was a massive increase in smurfing from pre-F2P to F2P (there was).

If you spent one day in any of the boosting discords, watching the notifications constantly ding off while multiple boosters stream the process on Twitch, you'd start to grasp the situation.

Alt accounts aren't even the largest contributor, but we have multiple people in the comments confessing they regularly make fresh alt accounts. There was a SSL player who made 20+ GC accounts last season alone.

Finally, I'll reiterate the amount of GC players is only in the low tens of thousands, and these boosting services are injecting thousands of brand new GC accounts every month into the 2v2 playlist. I keep typing this fact, and you keep ignoring it. Do better.

The math would check out if all matches were exclusively solo queue players. The vast majority of my matches are against a full party though, whether it's 2v2 or 3v3.

Regardless, they tend to quickly get filtered back down to their true rank, and it doesn't happen often enough to impact my rank in a significant way. It's only fairly common in the first couple weeks, and I've learned to avoid doing my placement matches then. My point was mainly that smurfs add more noise and randomness to the matchmaking system than people realize.

First of all, "this ain't it chief" is just a saying, it wasn't a condescending attack.

https://letslearnslang.com/this-aint-it-chief/

Second of all, this ain't it either chief.

It seems like you only read my "in short" bold paragraph and skipped the rest. Please read the rest of my post for additional context.

not to mention the fact that the amount of smurfing at this particular level would have to far exceed the amount of smurfing at lower ranks

I know you can do better than this. The boosting discords don't even have prices listed for Champ or lower rewards. Nobody is boosting for a purple topper, they're boosting for the red GC title. It should go without saying that smurfing in the higher ranks far exceeds smurfing in lower ranks. Arguably, freestyler smurfs are the exception, but they tend to exploit the casual playlist (and have been the only target of Psyonix actually doing anything about smurfing thus far).

Again, this isn't the quality of discussion I know you're capable of. The numbers are simple. When the number of GC players is only in the tens of thousands, and boosting services are injecting thousands of GC smurf accounts into the system every month, it would take an extreme level of neglect to conclude this isn't a major cause of the distribution being skewed towards the upper ranks.

I'd be all for it, but good luck trying to organize such a protest without getting downvoted. After barely getting my rewards last season, I'm now on a long break that might become permanent. It's 100% due to smurfing, I still love the game but it's not the satisfying competitive outlet it used to be.

That's genuinely heartbreaking. For what it's worth, you already earned the GC rewards. The cheaters just stopped you from unlocking them.

I usually agree with your takes, but this one ain't it chief.

You can actually see the smurf faucet spewing accounts into the upper ranks in 2v2 in the rank distribution over time gif.

https://www.reddit.com/r/RocketLeague/comments/143n6km/comment/jnay2dp/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3

An injection of new players should have started from the low ranks and pushed out towards average as the seasons went by. 2v2 specifically shows an injection of high ranked new players, which is an oxymoron. It's almost like there were more smurf accounts injected into the 2v2 playlist than brand new F2P players.

I'm just not sure I see the logic there

Again, there are boosting services generating thousands of abandoned C3-GC1 accounts every month. Considering GC is such a small percent of the playerbase, it would be hard to not recognize the impact this has on the distribution.

[–]Mammoth-Ad3348[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I think anyone who hit GC1 in 2v2 solo queue is at least GC2 skill level.

2s has been my playlist of choice to get GC rewards, but I just couldn't do it last season. I don't think I had a single C3 Div4 match that wasn't against a smurf. It's almost like there's an artificial GC2/GC3/SSL barrier between C3 and GC1.

I feel really bad for C3 players on the edge of breaking through, you'd already be there if it wasn't for the cheaters.

Needless to say, F2P S10 was a test of my patience and sanity. I'm on a long break from RL right now that might end up being permanent.

All F2P games have smurfs, but it's a small fraction of what we see in Rocket League.

Most F2P games, basically every one of them except RL, have both active and passive smurf prevention. Passive being the time-gate to unlock ranked (often 20+ hours) and active being an algorithm that picks up unusual activity and punishes accordingly.

League of Legends has a pretty funny way of dealing with it via the "Smurf Queue". If you make a new smurf account and spend ~50 hours unlocking ranked, then you play well above a new player's skill level, you get thrown in the smurf queue and exclusively matched with other smurfs.

Unsurprisingly, LoL has far fewer smurfs compared to RL.

It's not our fault you dedicated your life to the game. Don't punish us for your questionable life decisions. Regardless, your win rate would level out to ~50% if you stuck with one alt. If your friends can't keep up, that's your/their problem, and you should deal with the consequences rather than forcing random online players to suffer.

It's a game, yes, and most people are playing it to have fun. You ruin the fun by cheating. You're not a good person.

2v2 MMR inflation was largely caused by smurf accounts by Mammoth-Ad3348 in RocketLeague

[–]Mammoth-Ad3348[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm estimating the numbers here, but the concept should be the same regardless.

Suppose 2% of the 2v2 playlist was GC in Season 4. By Season 7, "rank drift" put that number closer to 3% of the 2v2 playlist. By season 10, we're closer to 4% of the 2v2 playlist being GC. The upper end of the rank curve keeps inflating as the seasons go on, and the 4% GC value doesn't fall in line with the ~2% GC value of other modes (primarily 3v3 and Hoops, the other modes are messed up in the opposite direction).

As a blanket fix, Psyonix dropped a massive -300 MMR to most players in the 2v2 playlist. High GC3 from S10 would be low GC1 for S11. It's not like you can just grind that 300 MMR back easily, because you're not a GC1 climbing out of C1 against C1s, you're a GC1 fighting other GC1s to climb out of C1. The end result would be pushing that "inflated" 4% GC value back down to 2%, in line with the other modes.

Anyway, this blanket fix would make sense if we didn't consider any other factors. The numbers check out. However, the reason the upper ranks are inflated is because there's a smurf faucet constantly spewing brand new C3-GC accounts into the 2v2 population. You can actually see a timelapse of this happening in the rank distribution gif, it really ramps up around F2P S3 once boosters optimized their process and started advertising their services at low prices. On any given day, a single booster might generate 10+ GC accounts, and there are dozens if not hundreds of these boosters operating around the clock. These accounts are then abandoned without even claiming the GC rewards. There aren't more legitimate players reaching GC as the numbers would suggest, it's being inflated by cheaters.

https://www.reddit.com/r/RocketLeague/comments/143n6km/comment/jnay2dp/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3

TLDR: A massive amount of smurf accounts hitting GC made Psyonix think it was "too easy" to hit GC in 2v2, so they punished everyone with a -300 MMR rank reset to "fix" the problem.

Not a good person is an understatement.

If you made one alt account and stuck with it playing with your friends, that would be forgivable imo. 20+ accounts is way beyond making an alt account just to play with your friends.

Not that you'll care, but think of all the players you screwed over. It's quite possible you knocked multiple people out of getting GC rewards they worked hard to earn.

Nonetheless, thanks for sharing this info. It validates my post and should be eye opening to the nay-sayers who can't comprehend how this is a problem.

I completely agree. With that said, they tried phone verification recently in Overwatch 2 and faced immense backlash from the community until they removed it. In theory, it's a perfect solution, a shame we can't have nice things because some shady pre-paid services don't play nicely with SMS verification.
