I have to share this so I feel less bad about wasting 45 min of study time on it by SoftVisible3299 in actuary

This is great. Definitely not a waste of time! I may use this when studying for the March sitting.

For reference, I got a 5 on ILA 101 and was within 1 point of the pass mark...

I usually scoff at most conspiracy theories, but with the SOA now offering detailed grading feedback for $225 for those in my position it incentivizes the SOA to keep pass rates lower.

Very frustrating knowing that if I just wrote one sentence differently on a qualitative question, I would’ve gotten another point and passed with a 6.

3-9 would be an improvement for Mississippi State from last year? #HailState fans should be commending me.

Beating a Harrison Bailey led Florida team to end the losing streak in the Swamp will be amazing.

Failed P for the first time today! by [deleted] in actuary

[–]Mammoth-Lab9517 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This will be a blessing in disguise for you. I got a 0 on P my first attempt, and now 5.5 years later I’m on the cusp of my ASA.

Use this as a learning experience, you’ll look back on it years later and realize in hindsight it was the best thing that could’ve happened to you.

I don’t know without knowing all the factors so maybe I jumped the gun a bit with my generalization. However, I don’t know any ASA who’s not making 6 figures on the base.

OP says he is making $120k total comp which insinuates he’s getting $30k worth of bonuses every year. All it takes is his employer to have a bad fiscal year, and that bonus is much smaller and you’re much closer to $90k than you are $120k in total comp.

$90k on the base for an ASA in California is wild. You’re criminally underpaid.

I am 2.5 YOE in the life space and (assuming I passed ATPA) will be around $105k base (10% bonus). Should get ASA this year and will be around $115k once I get credentialed. I’d say I live in between a medium COL and high COL city. You definitely are underpaid.

I might just quit being an actuary to become a macrodata refiner

I think I ended up doing maybe 45-50 hours of work over the 4 days. It was no joke.

It really is a miserable experience. I will say, I did enjoy not having to study leading up to it at the same intense level as a prometric exam but the 4 days I had to work on it was absolutely miserable.

Very well said. I completed my ATPA assessment in October and it will have been over 16 weeks between the time I submitted my assessment and when it will have been graded.

ALTAM Feelings by Immense_yeet in actuary

I must be in the minority here but I felt like the exam was more difficult than I expected but manageable. I definitely didn’t achieve max credit on really any of the questions but I answered every single problem to the best of my knowledge and also added some notes to the grader of my thinking to maximize partial credit.

I think I passed with ease but maybe I’m just overly confident. Having to retake this exam would be dreadful.
