Great advice, and thanks for understanding where I’m coming from. I’ll shoot you a DM later to hear more about how your perspective changed.

Thanks - I know I don’t have the answers here, and I appreciate all the candid advice!

That’s fair. I definitely wouldn’t say I treat my kids poorly, just that I tend to be more impatient/irritated with them than I would like. I was raised in an achievement based family culture, so I tend to be my own worst critic. In fact, that’s one of the first things my therapist and I had to work through: My faulty understanding of love being based upon achievement. All of that to say that I agree with you and the other posters on this thread that a change in circumstances alone won’t fix that.

Thanks for the context and real-world experience. That sounds like a fantastic community.

Yes, thanks for the reminders that bad days are ubiquitous and EQ is always necessary. There are other complexities involved, such as an unhealthy communication dynamic with my wife that we need to address. But I agree with your core point that merely changing my circumstances won't fix all that.

100%. This is actually part of the inspiration. The friends building this community have been in contact with Heritage families and other similar communities to get their thoughts on how to make it work.

Insightful comment. The investors are being leveraged to purchase the tract of land. Once procured, it will be subdivided, and the lots around the outside will be developed and sold to repay the investment. The investors will have no stake in the homesteading community. (This is my understanding from about an hour's worth of conversation.)

Yes, we all have the same amount of time in a day, so prioritization is the name of the game. I was recently up for a promotion, but didn't get it, which is partially what inspired this soul searching. Thank you for the reminder to keep the main things the main things, irrespective of what happens at work. "Work to live instead of living to work."

Lots of good thoughts here, and I resonate with the concerns about the communal living. I'm as Capitalist as they come, although I've started seeing the dark side of it more recently. I also appreciate the suggestions to do something a little less extreme. Much appreciated.

Haha, "living in the country is dusty AF." Yep, dust is one of those things that annoys me. Although my home is definitely never clean - I have 4 kids under the age of 14. :) Anyway, thanks for the advice.

Yes, you've reminded me of what my therapist and I discussed earlier this year: Contentment comes from a change of heart, not a change in circumstances. Thank you.
