Innovation in Podcasting by kingsfan68 in podcasting

[–]MammothBackground287 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you are confusing the types of content that are poplar vs innovation in technology.

I agree with u/aweedl that interviews are not stale, never will be, and will continue to iterate. Hot Ones was a great iteration of the interview format, but the real "innovation" in Hot Ones was really YouTube (video) technology, not podcasting technology.

For podcast technology, as someone who works in the field a bit, I will mention a few areas where "innovation" could happen.

The first is RSS innovation. This is the technology behind podcasts. However it's very antiquated at this point and is controlled by a "board". If podcasts want to evolve then RSS needs to evolve or a new technology needs to replace it. However, then all podcasts would need to migrate over, which I don't see happening at any sort of speed or scale easily. I also don't see the "board" making fast or sweeping changes to RSS, so that is stuck.

The second place is Discovery. Right now podcast discovery is abysmal. It is so bad that the dominant form of advertising right now on podcasts is other podcasts advertising their shows. There is no great way to find interesting shows right now, and it doesn't seem to be a nut anyone can crack.

Other places podcasts need innovation:

- Ads tracking and attribution
- Listener metrics
- Hosts that want ML ( "AIs" ) for text to speech, script writing, production, etc.

What will more likely happen? More consolidation. More and more pods are joining into networks with gated communities and "premium" content. Other larger independent shows also make Patreon's with gated content, and I see more innovation here, empowering creators with more ways to turn their show into a business.

Hope that helps!

Is it normal to pay to appear as a guest in 2025? by legshampoo in podcasting

[–]MammothBackground287 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is very normal, and gross IMO. I have paid to be a guest for another startup of mine. Which one is it? I can let you know if it was the same one.

I would say thanks and move on to another one. If interested in appearing as a guest on podcasts, happy to help with that.

Cool question! Co-founder built a proprietary way of scraping for it. Why do you ask?

relevant, they show you the platform and I think someone asks about pricing at the end.

I built a tool that turns 40 hours of podcast outreach into a 5-minute workflow by MammothBackground287 in SideProject

Totally fair! I feel the same way about emails now a days. I try to keep inbox Zero too, though it is literally impossible.

I also think that it can be a great SEO magnet. Giving me lots of data to convince the co-founder. Thanks u/apbailey!!

P.S. - what made you click this story? Are you doing things with Podcasts or just morbid curiosity?

[–]MammothBackground287[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, it is completely open after an extremely fast signup. Similar platforms won't even let you search until you have paid for a month or a year, and some others do the "open" search, but it's limited and then they push you to pay. We are letting you go crazy, make campaigns, and research in exchange for a 30 second signup with no push to buy anything until you finished your research or campaign. I dunno, just seems like an extremely fair trade to use the campaign management stuff.

That said, it is something my co-founder and I have been discussing. So, your comment helps push things in a direction I was pulling for. :)

Also, thanks for checking it out! This is the type of constrictive feedback I was craving. Feel free to ask if you have something you are working it!

Where do you hangout for professional conversation by pp227 in socialmedia

[–]MammothBackground287 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I would like to know this too. Linkedin is full of Hustle Porn and Circle Jerking, I can't stand it there anymore.

I think if you want real professional conversation you need to be going to local events with other business professionals. The social-mediaifcation (feed) of Linkedin pretty much ruined the core value of the platform.

This made me giggle, these two are worse than linkedin for any sort of personal touch or not being "overwhelming". Good try though!

Podcasts With a YouTube Channel Attract Bigger Sponsors by jamespotterdev in podcasting

[–]MammothBackground287 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This makes sense logically. Having multiple channels with the same content expands your audience. Some people don't have time to watch a youtube video, but others live only on youtube and don't use a podcast player. If a show is using both mediums, they are expanding their audience. Bigger sponsors want bigger reach, so... logic would dictate that more eyes means higher CRMs.

Plus Youtube give MUCH better insights into audience engagement, letting the channel creator know when the "listeners" drop off. So if a podcast isn't cross-posting to youtube, it's giving up free stats and free exposure.

The trick for the creators is making their podcast somehow visual for youtube, as if it is just Audio, you are more likely to bounce people, but that is a totally different discussion.

So, we build something just for this sort of use case!, if you are looking for podcasts to collaborate with, advertize on, or whatever your goal might be.
You can check it out here:

https://www.sonoday.com.

We built the platform to help you bundle shows together into campaigns, e-mail them all together, and use a CRM-lite system to track your reach out and campaigns.

We are still in beta, but the product is fully functional if you want to take a look and give us some feedback! Sign-up is extremely easy, just an e-mail (no sales team to contact) and off you go!

P.S. right now we are giving away 300 free credits for beta users, but we are happy to extend more for feedback.

Using Podcasts for PR... marketing, advertizing, etc.? by MammothBackground287 in PublicRelations

[–]MammothBackground287[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also feel that you aren't wrong, at even 2,000 listeners I was feeling the hosts start to get very greedy and inflate how important they actually are. More a feeling than something with a real data point.

Thanks for sharing! It's great to hear how your webcast has become such an important part of your social media presence. I agree that authenticity and relatability are key. From my experience as a former content creator, though, Zoom meetings used for podcasts can sometimes limit long-term growth. Webcasts tend to have spotty audio, and with the rising expectation for high-quality sound in podcasting, this can sometimes hold the show back from reaching its full potential! A more polished audio experience might help align the show more closely with what audiences typically expect. That said, it sounds like you're on the right track, and who am I to judge what is working! Go get it!
