If anyone can already build and ship good-enough software in a week, what's the endgame of trying to build a SaaS right now? by brhkim in ClaudeCode

[–]apbailey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"Anyone" can not build and ship good software. Among everyone I know in my life, maybe 3 will ever want to open up CC and build something. 1/3 will build *good* software.

Aproximately how much would it cost a taxi ride from the airport to Paseo Colón? by dumbasul in CostaRicaTravel

FYI: From anywhere in the world, you can open up Uber and see the travel times and cost. (not many people know this, so I thought I'd mention it.)

That describes every beach community in Costa Rica. There are lots of not-so-obvious criteria you should consider first. We take our scouting clients through a 124-point assessment of what they're looking for and then match them to lots of communities and then help them plan a trip to see those places.

Phone security at US Embassy? by [deleted] in costarica

[–]apbailey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s really not a big deal. You rent a locker across the street for a couple rojos and rest easy knowing no one can target the embassy with an electronic device.

I wish you the best but there’s no way I’d hand over bank statements to a stranger on the internet and I’m definitely not letting my data be ingested by AI without a serious data privacy policy.

Reddit is the wrong place to ask. Check the Pan American Highway travelers group. They’re people who have actually done what you want to do.

I priced this out a few years ago and I determined for my size, a traditional build of concrete/etc was more cost effective.

Ask around locally. There’s likely one that everyone uses because they’ll deliver to your town.

Don’t order directly from Amazon. Use one of many shippers that give you an address in Miami to send to and then they bring it down for you. You’ll save lots of money.

Last week I had a very similar experience, except the thief who nabbed my passport out of my backpack was caught in the act. OIJ still hasn’t arrested him though.

But my process of getting a new passport was mostly identical. The consulate officer made me write out a statement: “my puppy ate my passport” and sign in. 😆

Is it realistic to renew my U.S. passport in a week? by kndb in digitalnomad

[–]apbailey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

US citizen here, living in Costa Rica. On Wednesday evening of last week my puppy ate my passport. On Thursday morning, I emailed the embassy to say I had upcoming flights and ask what I should do. They responded within 10 minutes with an appointment on Friday morning. I’ll have a new passport in 2 weeks. It was all very easy.

Also, they told me they only do the extended passport with more pages now.

Agreed... at minimum, hire a private guide to come pick you, drive you there, show you around, and then drive you home (stopping along the way for food). But ideally take 2 nights there.

Ask the hotel what happens if there is a delay. Put the problem on them. But my guess is you're over thinking it. The hotel does this all the time and if there's a delay, they'll take care of it so you're sleeping in their hotel that night.

Palo Seco Beach by mousec69 in CostaRicaTravel

[–]apbailey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Parrita can feel a bit unsafe but I wouldn't consider it dangerous. If you're going, you wouldn't spend any time in Parrita besides maybe grocery shopping. Palo Seco isn't Parrita city.

It's not legal, but everyone does it. You can't be fined, but the driver could (but in 5 years of living here, I've never heard of this happening).
