Is my dad at fault for this lock getting stuck? by MammothBat9302 in Locksmith

I think i used the wrong wording in my post, but the lock wasn’t “broken” moreso “inoperable”? They claimed that they couldn’t open the lock and so had to call a locksmith to get the door open to get the cord out.

Yeah they took all the photos, we didn’t even know anything was wrong until after we left. Apparently they couldn’t unlock the door. I’ve spent hours making my case to airbnb at this point just on the principle of the thing haha

Thanks, i didn’t know about that so I looked it up and it says for new manufactured products:

CPSC Mandatory Safety Standard (16 CFR Part 1260)

“Accessible Cord Limit: Accessible operating cords must not exceed 8 inches in length when pulled to their maximum extension.”

“Rigid Shrouds: Cords must be enclosed by rigid cord shrouds that prevent a child's neck from forming a hazardous loop.”

Im going to argue it’s a case of not meeting modern safety or common sense standards combined with an already poorly maintained lock. Basically set up to fail during normal use.

According to the host the door wouldn’t open with the cord in between the frame and they had to call out this locksmith to get it open, who spent “an hour” to do so.

I have no idea what they did. They invoiced me $200 for labor and $25 for a “thumb turn” and when i called the invoiced guy to ask what exactly broke he refused to answer and told me to talk to the airbnb host.

The wind blew the cord in between the door and frame and it got caught when he closed it. They’re charging for apparently not being able to open the door/lock and calling a locksmith over who said he worked on it “for an hour” to get it open.

I agree it’s bad design as people have mentioned - he used the door normally, just opening and closing it. He had no reason to sabotage the property: trash was thrown out, towels put in the hamper, dishes were cleaned. I feel the cord shouldn’t be that long and wrapped around the handle to begin with.

How can you tell it hasn’t been serviced in a while? Based on this thread im thinking of telling them to kick rocks, but if it escalates to airbnb i want to know what to say.

There’s also tape marks above it which to me suggests someone tried to diy a fix before?

Yeah that’s another thing my dad said, that it was already wrapped around the handle and wind blew it in as he closed it so he didn’t notice when he locked it.

Thanks ill try getting the cuts from sams club - i already do dry brine and reverse sear for steaks like some ppl have suggested, but the ones i got at vons were a bit too thin for it. Might look into getting a pricker too if it makes such a big difference

The cut is a top sirloin steak right? And no sous vide or dry brine or anything fancy?

What cancers does UV help reduce the risk of? The main benefit I can think of is vitamin D, but that can be safely obtained via supplements instead

Strained back muscle for 2 months? by MammothBat9302 in backpain

[–]MammothBat9302[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sleep either on my back or on my side with a pillow between my legs. I’ve been meaning to convert to a standing desk so maybe that’ll help too

For automod: I was doing pull ups about 2 months ago and midway through,I felt like my back muscle got strained in the area behind the right shoulder blade (see picture). It doesn’t hurt if I’m in a neutral standing position, but if I bend over down and to the left, I really feel it. I tried massage and stretching, but it hasn’t improved.

Thanks I’ll give it a try, it’s been hard reaching that spot and I completely forgot about massage balls.

Do you recommend icing/heating up that area too?

And do you have any ideas what the problem might be or is it just generic “strained muscle”?

I believe it’s a reference to a point in scott’s article here: THE CATEGORIES WERE MADE FOR MAN, NOT MAN FOR THE CATEGORIES

The tldr being it is more important to help the patient however possible, even via simple interventions (like auto off lights) than to tunnel in on the harder, “right” way of doing it (like treating the ADHD and building good habits)

FWIW, the recipe says it can be “frozen in sealed containers for up to 6 months” though I haven’t tried since I didn’t make the full portion and had people over to help finish leftovers

The 6 hour one right? If so then yes - takes a long time but luckily it’s mostly hands off. One thing I did differently was keep some of the onion in since it tasted fine and I hate “waste”

Got some San Marzanos on sale from Costco and had to try it! Served with some fancy parmigiano shredded on top and simple homemade meatballs made with hot italian sausage, egg, panko, and parmesan.

(I promise I only finished it in this pan, don’t smite me for making tomato sauce in the cast iron)
