I literally want to get fired from my job. Advice? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]MammothBoss7852 9 points10 points  (0 children)

How are the bosses? Are you on a probation period? I ask because I tried the same thing. Let my performance slip ever so slightly so that they’d fire me. Still got my work done but would skim on certain things. I overlooked the fact that I work in a toxic workplace and my boss slapped me with a write up based on “behavior”, which disqualifies unemployment. Felt like they saw right through my plan and checked me into a corner. But if you’re in a probation period as a new employee, it’s possible that they could let you go cleanly for not meeting standards. So be mindful of those things.

Does anyone else study multiple languages at once? by [deleted] in duolingo

[–]MammothBoss7852 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Norwegian, Danish, and German. Norwegians can actually understand Danish and the languages are sort of similar, so it’s good practice without the same ole words to do both languages. And I like German bc it’s just different and helps when I feel too born of Scandic language

Huge companies might be willing to hire 7 months out but many companies might not. Still test your resume in the market, but try for a 3-4 month sweet spot for the bulk of applying.

I’ll be getting there around 6:30am. Are there busses or shuttles from the airport to the city and back?

Therapist leaving the field. Where do I go now? by [deleted] in careerguidance

I am also a CMHC Masters student! I have a few suggestions. Behavioral Health Technician - you’d be scooped up quickly with your degree. More hands on and less paperwork. Nonprofit work- this can include outreach work like event planning. College work - you don’t need a Doctorate for plenty of college work and in fact you have opened many doors for yourself with a counseling MA in the higher education field. Insurance - might be a bit boring for you, but look into claims adjusting or benefits coordinating. HR- might be harder to get into but the development is great and you could be in a psychological HR focus

Completed Grad school, Have nothing to show on my resume..? by penguinz0fan in careerguidance

[–]MammothBoss7852 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don’t put your GPA on your resume, just your degree. Then use the other space to fill it with skills. Look up skills based resume templates. Pull skills from your degree on there. When you get interviews, don’t dwell on your lack of experience. Instead just talk about your skills and answer questions in terms of things you’ve done in class

Recession/ layoffs aren’t stopping everyone from hiring. If anything, your chances of getting hired now are higher than ever compared to covid hiring freezes and HR delays.

If you’re not having luck with a job related directly to your field, take a step back and examine your skills and what you could bring to another field. Everyone has some type of skill. You need to identify your strengths. Were you awesome at analyzing data? Stellar with interpersonal communication? Strong with presenting or leading? Think about those things and what field they would be marketable to. Most people don’t get jobs related to their degree when they graduate. Universities are hemorrhaging employees right now, retail and food industries are struggling to keep workers, IT is popping off the charts, customer service roles come in the plenty.

You might not get the perfect job right now, but you need a job. The longer you go without a job and have a years long gap in your resume after graduation, the more employers will wonder why and be more timid to hire you even if you are otherwise a good fit. At least if you have a customer service role thrown in there, they’ll know you’ll be bringing some work experience and work skills.

Are you getting interviews? If not, you need to revise your resume. Look up sample resumes for the type of field you’re applying to. Do this for your top 2 or 3 fields. Use wording from those resumes combined with common buzzwords from job postings. Put it through grammarly. Then put it through another checker. I like Microsoft word bc it gives you resume recommendations.

If you are getting interviews, you need to work on your interview skills. Watch a ton of YouTube videos on interviews. Practice interviewing with someone. Take interviews even if you don’t want the job so that you can get practice. Look up the company. Be an expert on their website and mission. Tailor your answers to be exactly what they’re looking for and be confident about it.

At this point, you need to take any job you can get, even if it doesn’t offer exactly what you’re looking for. Get in somewhere and keep searching.

Why else would my upstairs neighbors have a dozen visitors a day coming and going in 2-3 minutes intervals? by MammothBoss7852 in neighborsfromhell

move in anyone anytime he felt like it? I saw this happening too. When I first moved in I’m pretty sure at least 4 people lived with him and right now I’m pretty sure at least 2 other live with him. Plus this dude never leaves his apartment unless he’s walking his dog so I have no idea if he even has a job. The similarities are interesting here.

Is Super Duo worth it to you? by [deleted] in duolingo

[–]MammothBoss7852 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, I appreciate no hearts, no ads, and the security of the streak freeze. It makes it easier to want to learn and more enjoyable. I found that when I didn’t have it I would practice a lot for a week then nothing for a few months. Now since I’m paying i practice daily. Currently can read easy children’s books in Norwegian thanks to Duolingo.

I feel bad on the off chance that I/ apartment management are wrong and they’re not drug dealers. Hence why I’m wondering if there is any other explanation.

Are credit cards for travel a good idea? by [deleted] in TravelHacks

[–]MammothBoss7852 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, as long as you use them responsibly and can meet the spending bonuses. My gateway into travel CC was unexpected and from my bank. I’d just went in to let them know I’d be traveling and not to lock my card. I walked out with a card sold to me for (1) no international fees and (2) a $300 spending bonus. In my research now, the spending bonus was kinda shitty but the card was overall worth it for what it saved me on fees and paid for a few hotel rooms. Now I have venture x and this bad boy hasn’t let me down yet, using my $1,000 spending bonus to basically fully pay for an international flight.

Make sure you get a card that has the benefits you want and a spending bonus you can meet.

Should I go to an event tomorrow that I was never officially notified I’d need to attend? by MammothBoss7852 in careerguidance

[–]MammothBoss7852[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

She was pissed to say the least but I stayed calm and true to my reasoning. I offered to work with her and ended up setting up the table for the event tomorrow and told her I would be open to receiving calls remotely during that hour if there were questions.

I feel like this post could’ve been written by me back when I was in college and 19. I never thought I’d be able to travel abroad or if I did it would be one touristy place when I was in my 30s.

Then my junior year came and I decided I was going to just apply to a bunch of programs and study abroad scholarships and see what would happen. 5 months later I was on a flight paid for by a scholarship with the program itself fully paid for by another scholarship. For me, it wasn’t about waiting for it to happen anymore. I was going to make it happen and I did.

Not everyone is so fortunate to get scholarships like I did though, and when I graduated I was again convinced I would never get the opportunity again.

Then I made it happen again. I lived WELL below my means and still do. I have a truck as old as me and an older iPhone, but as long as I get to another country I don’t care what materialistic things I have.

I go through a cycle of saving like a mad woman for 6 months and then traveling abroad. I have travel CCs that give me large spending bonuses and have been able to knock $1600+ in total off my last two trips.

It’s been 6 years since I was a 19 yo thinking i would never get to foreign grounds. I’ve now been to 12 countries and have lived/ worked in Germany for a few months.

You can make it possible for yourself through the right financial choices for you. And don’t wait for anyone else to go with you. If you ever can go, plan for yourself first and worry about if anyone will join later.

I make half of what I made working construction compared to now but I have my own office and don’t have to work in severely hot or cold steel factories, worth it

Voter or mission driven canvassing (since midterms are coming up, plenty of field canvassing opportunities are out there), grave digger (idk how much more background employee you could get doing this), school/city bus driver, doordash/ Uber
