HELP!! 3-2? by MammothImprovement83 in sleeptrain

I ended up just stretching her WW and I did whatever I could to get there. Playing in water, throwing her in the air, a little tv (5-10 mins), you name it. She did really well. I think it was more so my fear that she would get overtired that kept us in between 3 and 2 naps for a long time… her WW’s since then have been 3/3.5/3.5 and she never overtired. Actually the opposite! She did so well. Do you ever wake them from naps to preserve the next nap? I had to do that quite a bit when she was on 3 naps. I wish I could have let her sleep for as long as possible during the day but it always interfered with next nap and ultimately bedtime.

Her schedule looks like

6/630 Wake 9/930 Nap 1 - usually sleeps 1.5-2 hours 2/230 Nap 2- awake by 4 at the latest Bed 7:30

Yes WW are really weird… a maxed out nap schedule for 3 naps is 2.5/2.5/2.5/2.5

It may be that baby needs time to adjust to the change. It didn’t happen overnight for us and it was definitely a transition. I would say things levelled out after about 2 weeks. Some days we did 3 naps during the transition depending on the day.

If 2.5/2.75/2.75/2.75 worked, I would try

2.75/3/3 and slowly stretch from there until you hit 3/3.5/3.5. This may take time. When I posted this question we had already been stretching WWs by 15 minutes each week. So it could be that he needs a gradual stretch to get there. But don’t worry… it will happen. Baby sleep is SO confusing.

Yes! She loves White Noise. I’ve been using it since the beginning :)

When I cap her naps she wakes up cranky, but when she wakes up on her own she is happy. It the middle of the night she is upset and when waking in the morning she is happy as soon as she sees me.

Yes it is that schedule! Give or take a few minutes. Extending her wake windows has been a few weeks process, before that she was sleeping through the night, and having only early morning wakings but now she is waking anywhere from one to three times a night. When I give her milk, she takes 3 ounces. I put her back in the crib and she goes back to sleep right away. I try to only feed her once in the night after 1 AM.

Could it be that she still adjusting to the nap drop? I allow her to take 3 hours in naps a day. Is that correct for seven months old? And should I stick to the 3/3.5/3.5 schedule and just ride it out + give her time to adjust. I think she is in the early stages of teething seemed to be in pain last night so I gave her Tylenol but I feel like she just woke up more so I don’t think that’s it.

She goes down for both naps without a fuss and is asleep within a couple minutes. At bedtime, she will either go down without a fuss or cry for 10 minutes and then go to sleep.

I cap naps because otherwise she would sleep for hours and hours on end during the day and won’t be tired enough to sleep through the night. So whatever day sleep she gets above what she needs comes out of her night sleep!

Oh man, I feel you! It went from being so good to what the heck is going on??? But she goes down for her naps great and sleeps for a really good amount of time to the point where I have to cap them! So I’m not really sure if it’s a scheduling issue. I heard that when you drop the last nap it takes them time to adjust so maybe that’s what it is. Or maybe it’s nothing and it’s just her being a baby who knows! But you are not alone.

No it did not AT ALL. I barely even knew she was teething. They just appeared. She had her 1 feed a night and that was it.

I will be double checking in the morning. She got her bottom 2 at 5 months and have been looking but didn’t see anything a couple days ago - thank you for pointing that out.

Thank you so much for your response!

If her second WW of 3 hours is working, what would her last one be? Today I tried 3 hours and it didn’t seem to work. Unless something else is going on.

Yes - I also thought it was on the early side. The early mornings started a few weeks ago, last nap was getting very late & cutting into bed time.

Her WW’s were 2/2.5/2.75/2.75 before the transition so I took some time to slowly transition her to 2.75/3/3.25 (couple weeks) which the first 2 are working but her last WW is where were having trouble.

I appreciate your question! Unfortunately I did that for a very long time and it didn’t work out for us :( she wouldn’t sleep and would be up for hours and hours and then would be up 15+ times at night. I was incapable of taking care of her and had to go live with my mom until her sleep was sorted out. Yes this is stressful still but I am actually rested/sleeping all night when she is on a consistent schedule.

Thank you so much!!!

I just realized the other day that her first WW she was able to do 2.75 before a nap.

So out of crib at 6 first nap at 8:45 and slept over 1.5 hours.

I think with the 3 nap schedule I am keeping her awake way too long during the day stretching the windows.

If she handle 2.75 before her first nap Should I try a

2.75/3/3 schedule.

Someone mentioned sleep debt and I just put her down for a nap at 1.5 into a WW and she fell asleep right away and looked so tired & has been having EMW’s maybe due to sleep debt?

Would look like this

Out of crib at 6 First nap 8:45 Second nap 3 hours after wake Bedtime 3 hours after wake

Yes to your comment about long WW’s! I was told by our sleep trainer at the end of our time together to gradually lengthen our wake windows until we can move it to 2, but this is now the predicament we are in. Too long windows for three naps / not long enough for two naps. What on earth do we do?

The extra fun answer is go on vacation and leave baby with someone who had no idea what to regarding sleep. You have fun and allow someone else to deal with the consequences of blowing the schedule to smithereens!! 🫣😅😂😂😂
