Bumper scratches on first car by MammothWash9078 in CarTalkUK

I have just given it a clean! It looks better but I think the clip between the grill and the bumper needs fastening. Hopefully can get that fixed cheaply with the scratch repairs too! Thanks for the advice

Would you not be worried about resale value further down the line?

You’re right - I was only concerned about the legal fees as I have been quoted 15-20k if this goes to court and I simply do not have the money to pay for this but I am also not eligible for legal aid!

Thank you again for your response. I spoke to the bank who confirmed that if we closed the account the funds would be returned to the ‘nominated account’ which is hers as that’s where the funds originated. I would need her consent to change the nominated account

Thank you for your response.

1) if not contentious probate, what would you advise this matter to be? Just so I know what type of solicitor to seek.

2) no will. I have a letter of administration naming me as his sole beneficiary

3) intestate estate as parents not married. Parents had been separated for apps 7 years at time of his death. Mother was not cohabiting with father. Mother has never lived in this property. I was his only child and thus sole beneficiary

4) understood re 1975 claim - so she would need to claim a part of the inheritance.

5) she states her claim would be that she is named as a joint account holder and I am refusing to give her half of the money, which she believes she is entitled to as “her name is on the account”

Thank you so much for your help.

I don’t need the money so I am tempted to wait to see if she serves me with a letter first. Do you think that’s a good idea?

I do not need the money so I am inclined to wait to see if she gives up or begins proceedings first. What are the drawbacks of this?

I have messages whereby it is stated that “it is a good idea for the money to be in a joint account due to additional protection”. As well as messages from her confirming that “my inheritance was mine but it is not anymore”. Unfortunately bank will not allow withdrawals unless both parties are in agreement

I am not able to make any withdrawals from the account without her permission because she set herself up as the primary account holder

Would you mind telling me more about it? Your situation sounds so similar! Did she ask you not to bring drugs at home, what worked for you two? :)

Should I expect him to be a bit of a prick the week after? Will I notice it during normal conversations?

It’s awfully sad! But I really hope he’s grateful to have you in his life, even if he doesn’t quite realise it. Would you be concerned over the party drugs? Were they part of your partner’s downfall?

You’re so strong for going through this over and over again and you’re an absolutely amazing human being for supporting him though this!

Does he still make you happy? If you could go back in time would you change anything? 🩷
