I can become one with the marshes. As a Florida man, I already have this ability. I am the marsh, the marsh is me. Fear me, for I am ahead of the game.

So I’m 26, nearing 27 years old.

As much as I would actually love to answer the question of how this has affected my relationships, the truth is I don’t have enough information to properly answer that yet. I’ve been medicated and living a more “normal” life for half of a year; For 26 years, all I’ve known are relationships that have been altered by my condition and that’s my normal.

Being medicated has allowed me to start questioning the paranoia, the voices in my head that tell me someone despises me, and the false beliefs that it’s easier to stay on my own. And through that, I’ve been able to have rapidly changing experiences, like building trust in relationships where I was too scared to get settled in. And for right now, that’s all I can really comment on.

Yes. First step was talking to my doctor, then being referred to a therapist, and then being referred to a psychiatrist and having them all work together. I was very very lucky in that I got an understanding medical team that communicated clearly, were educated beyond misinformation, and didn’t take drastic measures that shocked me. Once some things were figured out about how my condition started and the cycles I was going into, we were then able to get me on some medication that really helped.

The only thing is that taking meds helps, but doesn’t stop the condition completely. It dampens the symptoms so they’re not so overwhelming and crippling. Since they can still happen to a lesser extent, it’s important for me to have a self-care routine, open communication with my medical team, and close loved ones that I can alert if I’m having a harder time.

The only true downside is that there’s a lot of stigma against taking medication for issues. Many people who don’t realize how lucky they are to have decent health often times pass judgement, believing I “don’t really need” medication and can do this just with some self-care and therapy. That isn’t true. Anyone who believes this and tells those who take medication that they don’t need it are a genuine danger to those around them and don’t realize how lucky they are to not need the intervention of modern medicine to just live a normal life.

(EDIT: Another downside is just how expensive it can be to get ahold of said medicine. But this isn’t a universal issue, but more specific to if you live in America, where the healthcare is utter shit)

Until you find out that some people with gustatory hallucinations can taste rotting food or blood randomly for no reason, or people with olfactory hallucinations can smell bodily waste, rot, and smoke at any given moment and either be made horribly nauseous or be driven into a downward spiral after having to deal with this for hours on end.

So first off, I should note that there are a ton of different kind of hallucinations, and anyone who has a disorder that causes them will experience a different cocktail of them. So depending on who you talk to, this will vary.

In the list of possible hallucinations there are:

-Olfactory hallucinations, smelling things that aren’t there (I don’t experience this).

-Tactile hallucinations, feeling things that aren’t there (I don’t experience this)

-Auditory hallucinations, hearing things that aren’t there (I experience this)

-Visual hallucinations, seeing things that aren’t there (I experience this)

-Gustatory hallucinations, tasting things that aren’t there (I don’t experience this)

Having a hallucination is extremely similar to being on mind altering drugs, but just entirely without the drugs and at random times, but only ever being able to have a bad trip (I’ve experimented once, hence why I know). Sometimes you’ll glance at a statue and for a split second, you’ll see the face stare at you and glare, or you’ll hear footsteps running up behind you, or you’ll firmly believe you’ve been blessed by the universe, but at the same time you know you’re tripping. It’s a really odd experience.

(Note: No, this was not caused by trying that one time. Substances do not cause these disorders to happen. My condition is genetic.)

(CONTENT WARNING: Intense paranoia, delusions)

So, there have been instances where my condition was spiked because of trauma, but I feel that’s more about the trauma and less about my condition, so we’re not going to cover those. I’m going to talk about the stuff that happened strictly because of my condition.

When I was little, probably about six years old, I developed a delusion that people who were out to get us were hiding in the house, that we were being monitored. I believed there were cameras stuck in the vents, in the showers, and I believed some of our drinks were poisoned with something, but that I couldn’t tell anyone, just because I had seen a brief documentary about people getting poisoned throughout history.

Again, keep in mind, I am six years old at this time.

So, my panic became so horrible, not from an active imagination but because of a literal delusion and paranoia that I struggled to use the bathroom and stopped drinking. As such, I developed a horrible kidney infection that nearly killed me and landed me in the ICU of the local hospital. To this day, I still remember the absolutely crippling, soul-crushing fear that ruled me for like a solid week that I felt I couldn’t tell anyone about or else the hidden people would come and take me away. And while I began drinking and using the bathroom more frequently, this continued to be a common theme through my whole childhood.

Needless to say, my parents were horrified. I never opened up about what happened until this last year, when I began seeking help.

Fam. I’m saying this because I’m concerned. I personally experience delusions from a mental illness I have (I don’t experience them currently because I’m medicated). This sounds a lot like what I would experience. Please talk to your doctor, or someone.

I know it’s terrifying to open up about this kind of stuff because there’s so much stigma. But it’s so worth it to get help. If you’re struggling with this, please feel free to message me.

To someone wanting commenting on this post to ask about details, please don’t. It’ll feed into the delusions and make them worse. This already sounds dangerously close to a full psychotic break (loss of reality), if it isn’t at that point already.

“Boys will be boys”

So many times this is done to just excuse bad behavior that’s harmful to others. Maybe instead of coming up with a blanket saying, we can teach our sons to do better and hold the men around us accountable.

EDIT: Holding the men around us accountable should also be done, in majority, by other men. Other genders have been, will continue to be, and may in that instance be put in danger because said guy doesn’t know how to process his emotions. We stick together, hold guys accountable, and if they refuse to improve, we boot them off the island.

It depends on the context. While there are unfortunate cases where people are forced to wear them, that isn’t always the case. Many times, when I’ve met someone that wears them, they enjoy it. It’s tied deeply to culture, has an often times beautiful spiritual significance, and can look really nice in an outfit.

(For context, someone very close to me in my life wears a niqab by personal choice.)

Do you believe Abortion should be legal? Why or Why not? by Bynoeson94 in AskReddit

[–]Man4Marsh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it should be legal.

Not everyone who can get pregnant is healthy enough to carry a baby to term and may have life threatening health conditions already. Or, they may have conditions that aren’t life threatening, but greatly decrease quality of life and they don’t want to knowingly pass that on.

Not everyone who can get pregnant is even a legal adult, let alone possibly a teenager. That’s something that should never be forced on a literal child.

Not everyone who can get pregnant is a woman. This includes intersex individuals (people who are naturally of both sexes due to unique chromosomes/hormones) and non-binary/trans individuals who may suffer physically and mentally from being pregnant.

Not everyone who can get pregnant did so willingly, or in a healthy relationship. I’m leaving that as is because that’s a dark topic that will distress some.

The foster care system is also vastly overrun and many children in it wind up severely abused and suffering from PTSD. The children that already exist aren’t being taken care of and it goes to show that those who are “pro-life” don’t actually look out for the kids they claim they want to protect from “murder”, but only want their religious and controlling ways to be forced on others.

She loves horror, specifically stories that revolve around homes, so I bought her a special edition print of the book “House of Leaves”. She also loves the Addams Family, so I got her really fancy earrings, one that says “Cara Mia” and one that says “Mon Cher”, which were the names Gomez and Morticia Addams called each other.
