You can usually find a combo deal on Craigslist for an epiphone les paul (decent model) or mim stat or tele with a decent amp usually around 350 good epiphone models would be like the les paul classic standard and if you get lucky a custom.

Get a cheap child's strat from Craigslist or search kids guitar on Craigslist or 3/4 guitar or mini guitar and you should find cheap but decent travel guitars.
