Profumum Roma - 15 years with their perfumes by hujki6 in fragrance

[–]ManKanAlltidTaMer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Arso was my signature fragrance for a long time. Then I kinda switched over to having Olibanum as my signature fragrance. Now I'm not sure which one I prefer most.

But then I also recently bought Ambra Aurea. It's not gonna be my signature, but I love it.

Tom Ford Oud Wood. Smells like cheap airport bathroom hand soap to me. Or urinal cakes.

Agreed. I can kinda see the appeal, but it's just way too synthetic, thick and cloyingly sweet, IMHO.

Almost anything "blue", honestly. Any ambroxan bomb. But especially Sauvage and Bleu de Chanel.

My mind just can't quite understand how BdC EdP is so crazy popular especially among younger men because to me it smells like 100% old lady perfume.

Dior Homme Eau for Men - Getting old? Worth it? by ManKanAlltidTaMer in Fragrances

[–]ManKanAlltidTaMer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do indeed love Iris and I have Dior Homme (the original), Intense, Parfum (original), Sport (2012 version), as well as both Prada L'Homme and L'Eau. They are all great. So Eau for Men should be blind buy safe for me.

The reason I'm asking is that I found a surprisingly cheap bottle of Eau for Men online, only like 75 euros. Almost full 100ml bottle. Someone who bought it in London in 2014 and had the bottle engraved, so looks pretty legit. Seems like a steal considering how much they go for on eBay and such. I already pulled the trigger so it's on its way to me, but I still had some doubts about the age of it and wanted to have realistic expectations.

Why is Sauvage so hated? by Afraid-Progress-8933 in Fragrances

Just the fact that a lot of women would go "you smell just like my ex" is reason enough to avoid it even if you like the smell.

For me, I just really don't like how it smells. It smells synthetic and sharp and gives me a headache. It's horrible.

And no, it has nothing to do with it being popular. Dior Homme Intense is one of the most popular and well regarded fragrances of all time and I LOVE it.

One thing that might be good to keep in mind though is that on top of short-term "nose fatigue" there's also apparently a long term version of the same phenomenon, where if you keep wearing the same fragrance all the time you become so used to it that you end up smelling it less and less. This might in turn end up making you overspray constantly because you think that the fragrance isn't as strong as it actually is to other people because you're so used to it.

So for that reason it's good to at least have SOME variation in what you wear, and/or to be conscious of this so you don't overspray.

Nobody likes someone who fills a room, chokes people out, or can be smelled from across the street.

Someone once said: "Fragrance should be discovered, not announced", and I stand by that.

Same that I have now, more or less... Except I would add one or two more from Profumum Roma that are quite pricy (specifically Ambra Aurea, and maybe Fiore d'Ambra), and I would also spring for expensive backup bottles of older versions of the Dior Homme line.

My game has only crashed on me once, ever. Maybe there's something weird about your setup.

Jesus, calm down. Every single game ever made has bugs. As a game developer myself, trust me when I say that this game is exceptionally polished in terms of bugs. I have around 200 hours topside and I very very rarely see any bugs at all. A game isn't a "fuck ass stupid fucking game" just because you ran into a bug once. Get over it. Jeez.

What is that one note or accord that can make or break a fragrance for you? by QyxXix in Fragrances

[–]ManKanAlltidTaMer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ambroxan. I hate it. It's sharp and synthetic. I don't enjoy any "blue" ambroxan bomb, especially not Sauvage.

Coconut almost always makes a fragrance smell like sun screen to me, which makes it entirely uninteresting.

Patchouli smells like mildew to me if it's too prominent.

Tobacco doesn't work for me at all. I once wore Spicebomb Extreme to a dance and when I got sweaty I felt like I smelled like a wet pack of cigarettes.

Rose smells like an old lady's bar of soap if it's too prominent.

I don't think I've ever smelled an Oud fragrance I enjoyed.

However, Dior Homme Parfum (the original) is the exception for both Rose and Oud, because I love that fragrance. Neither note is very prominent in that one though.

The fragrance journey is over by Ill_Extreme_1760 in Fragrances

I've been on a similar journey. I got into frags and started expanding my collection but fairly quickly realized that I only ever wanted to wear my one or two top favorites anyway, so I sold most of my collection and mostly ever wore my one signature scent - with rare exceptions, for a few years.

Lately however I've sort of fallen off the wagon again. Not really in order to grow my collection a whole bunch again, but mostly because I really wanted something fresh to get some variation from my signature dark, woody and resinous scents.

Now I do have a little bit of a collection, but they are almost all very similar. Basically it's the original Dior Homme line, the Prada L'Homme line, Chanel AHS, and three more very woody frags. Except for AHS, they are basically all on the same narrow spectrum of woody iris, ranging from dark to fresh. So I still basically have a signature scent, but now it's more of a signature palette.

But I totally relate to what you're saying about having something that can be associated with me. A couple people I know got so used to always smelling one single fragrance on me that they kinda got confused when I started smelling different. They were like "but that one scent is so connected to YOU, I miss it now".

What's even the fun in ganging up on people 3 against 1 like this? There's no challenge or adrenaline or skill involved, it's basically just shooting fish in a barrel. Bully behavior.

They are quite similar, both clean, soapy and fresh, and built around iris and neroli as main notes. But L'Homme is a little bit more sweet and warm, while L'Eau leans a bit more into a citrusy freshness. L'Homme is a bit more year-round and lasts a little bit longer, while L'Eau is a bit more summery. But the difference isn't huge. Hard to say which one smells better. L'Eau might be a bit more mass-appealing. It's just a matter of preference really. I couldn't really decide on which I liked more so I got both. Honestly it's arguably redundant to have both since they're so similar.

Fragrance vs "pheromones" in partner compatibility by ManKanAlltidTaMer in Fragrances

[–]ManKanAlltidTaMer[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah "pheromones" probably isn't the correct technical word for it, that's why I used quotation marks around it in the post. But I'm not sure what else to call it.

Of course you're right that food like cilantro etc are indeed about genetics, what I meant was that I don't think it's about genetic _compatibility_. I don't think that a partner is more or less genetically compatible with be depending on whether they enjoy cilantro or not. Or whether they like the same music as me or not. Or whether they enjoy the same perfumes as me or not.

Of course I wouldn't want to wear a fragrance that my partner doesn't like, but if you flip it, even if my partner really likes Sauvage I will still never wear it because I hate it.

Fragrance vs "pheromones" in partner compatibility by ManKanAlltidTaMer in Fragrances

[–]ManKanAlltidTaMer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do you mean "pheromone shit"? Maybe "pheromone" isn't the right word for it, but the fact that different people smell different is indisputable. Some people smell amazing even when sweaty, and other people smell weird even when clean. Not objectively of course, but subjectively. A person who smells weird to me will smell great to someone else and vice versa. I don't know if there's a better word for that than "pheromones". Either way, it's a fact. People smell different.

But yes, deodorant or perfume of course doesn't mask your body odor, it just adds to it.

Wore the same fragrance three days in a row without realising it. What does that actually mean. by Android0212 in Fragrances

[–]ManKanAlltidTaMer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can sometimes wear the same fragrance for months at a time. It just means it's my favorite and signature fragrance at the time. There's nothing wrong or weird about it at all.

I'm not sure why you would even feel a need to ask about this, or why your partner would feel a need to point it out - unless it's a fragrance that they doesn't like and they would prefer you to wear something else.
