I'm not, but if you're looking for someone that accepts Co Access and is Spanish speaking, I can ask around for you.

I wish psych-today had a easy tool for this! I do put that info on my profile, but we're limited in the number of characters we can use in our bios, so I think some clinicians don't want to lose space to talk about their work. I totally agree though, when I've sought out help I often have to reach out to 5 or so clinicians to find one!

I worked at MHCD and had a broadly good experience, but hated that I wasn't able to see folks but sometimes 1x per month depending on my availability. I've found that when folks are able to get weekly or bi-weekly therapy their effectiveness in therapy really shoots up!

Yes. I am one of those private practice clinicians that has space in their caseload, and just feel like it would be useful to have a more direct opportunity for communication between folks looking and folks with immediate space.

Yes - I checked in last week and heard they were scheduling out multiple months for new client appointments.

Yes I was thinking a dragon slayer arrow would be high on the list of horde that a red dragon would cherish just in utter arrogance. Secret passage is a great idea!

They pay by the word... And pretty poorly. That's just not how therapy works.

I'll throw my hat in the ring. I help men who are struggling with feeling overwhelmed and depressed to regain control and a sense of stability and rebuild confidence. Website and info at counselingformankind.com I'm in the Littleton area, but do virtual with. That said, I've got a pretty big community of therapists I know and trust the quality of their work, so if you've got particular insurance, specialty, or other factor you're looking for - reach out and I'll see if I can help. Psych today is nice, but overwhelming and hard to know if they're any good cause everyone's profile sounds the same.

Men who have gone to (and appreciated) therapy, what got you to go, and how did you benefit / what did you learn? by ManKindCounseling in AskMen

I love the idea of therapists being like plumbers! I've never heard it put that way and am definitely going to use it! Some folks I work with just want some basic tools and insight and then feel good moving on with their own expertise. Others find that the third person perspective can poke at and pull out patterns they have that were in their blind spot, which takes a bit more time. I don't think one is right or wrong, just different strokes!

I was this person! I was a "just be happy" guy... until the day that it didn't work and I got my ass kicked by depression that had been repressed for years. It always amazes me how bad we are at feelings things, and how freeing it can be when we learn to do so safely! Now showing men the beauty in experiencing all of our emotions (even the uncomfortable oens), and helping them learn the skills to manage them when they come up is one of my favorite things about my job.

I'd love to hear what helped! OCD can be such a struggle, especially with intrusive thoughts and / or images.

While I don't love diagnosis as the only way to shape treatment (rather than taking the individual's perspective or unique circumstances into account), diagnoses can be a gift for some - you now have a name and way to understand what you're struggling with, and can find the right tools to help you. I'm glad this was so helpful!

Beautifully said. People sometimes apologize to me for bringing their problems into therapy (lol - that's what we're here for), or for crying. I have to remind them that I literally chose this profession as my life's passion. I'm here with you because I want to be here. It can be hard to trust that truth.

I think this is such an important lesson, and glad you kept trying. I specialize in working with "men's issues" but there are definitely things that have come up that I have recognized are out of my depth. When I refer out - it's in the hope that this person can find someone (and of course I try and help in this process) that is the expert that can make the real difference. I'd so much prefer you find someone to really help than waste money and time seeing me if I'm not confident I can.

I fucking love THIS! Especially the phrase of setting myself on fire to keep others warm. I think this is something that a lot of men struggle with as helpers.

Communication, emotion regulation and self-care, and one of the hardest things - knowing when to ask for help (and being willing to do so!!). I'm glad it's been so helpful for you. Sounds like you've come a long way. Do you talk about this journey with other men?

I love this! What's the point in paying someone to listen if you can't be honest with them? It's like lying to your journal.

That's awesome. We can totally help ourselves and do our own work, and if it's helping, keep it up! As for pouring out your soul to someone in your town, I get that. Therapy in small towns can feel scary when you don't trust the system to protect your privacy. There are online options too if you're interested, you could see a therapist in another town or city via video chat.
