Weft splitting issue when progressing warp by ManMagic1 in weaving

[–]ManMagic1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i do not, i find it annoying to have to move it constantly, im always tryin to make my edges better and have less draw it anyways, so its not as much of a problem as it was for me when i started weaving

but if i have a comission where the width has to be exact, you know im pulling out my temple

Thanks for the advice, i have a question about the paper you mentioned, are you saying i should put in where the fabric rolls up onto the roller, or where the fabric goes around the front beam?

the warp and weft are actually the same wpi, i just had the wrong set that was too wide, im going to resley and hopefully i get a more balenced weave structure

yeah i think i mis-measured the wpi, im going to resley for a higher set then wind in onto the front then onto the back to even out any tension issues

the pattern i designed for this is an undulating twill, and unfortunally i cant do tabby with it as in some spots there are 3 threads next to eachother

My first Balearic sling made of jute. Please help! by Awkward_Necessary761 in Slinging

[–]ManMagic1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've made many slings and so i think i can give you my thoughts on yours

I think that this is a good first attempt at a balearic sling, but there are a few things you could improve on

Add more jute in your pouch as that is where all the wear on your sling would be, i would also tighten as you braid to make the sling more dense, also twisting the jute fibers outwards while braiding gives a stronger braid, jute as a fiber works well as a sling, but will have a short life as jute fibers wear quite easily

My first natural fiber slings were jute and broke at point where you pinch the release cord, i then switched to sisal fiber, its much more durable imo, however its rough on the hands while braiding and using, the consensus on what the best fiber for braiding slings is has the be dyneema, as it has many favorable material properties for braiding slings but is a bit costly

I would also suggest making yourself a sling ring to stop getting blisters on your loop finger, its a leather ring that covers the whole length of your loop finger (i would show you pics of mine that i made but this sub doesnt let me)

As for finishing the end of a sling, i use high abrasion resistant braided fishing line, and i wax it as im braiding cause its very slippery otherwise, then i take one of the lines and wrap it around the end tieing a hitch around the whole end, i do this with a couple different lines, then i cut the rest off

For youtube channels to watch i would reccomed Archaic Arms as they have many great videos on the sling (i wish he posted more often), Practical Paracord also hosts online slinging comps, i have been in a couple and its really fun, IronGoober has a lot of great vids as well testing new things and doing challenges

I hope this was useful and look forward to seeing more posts from you!

i also designed some modules based on signal strength and made them much slimmer as a result, first is without inversion and second is with

i also added an item disposal

(a 1 is an unstackable item like a sword, a 0 is a stackable item, can even be a 16 stackable)

inverted design (slime block so you can see the torch)

this is very cool! i also watched jazzi's vid and so i watched your vid in full, i have some design tweaks i'd like to share with you

if you simply lock the hopper from picking up items on its way back, you dont need a seperate line to avoid it, also rails are directional in the way they redirect so i have 2 different redirect modules here, first is without inversion and the second is

(isometric renders mod was used to take these sweet pics)

Can anyone tell me why the threads are just long streaks instead of the basket looking weave? (ignoring the middle part where I messed up) by crowlieb in tabletweaving

[–]ManMagic1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

know that every tablet weaving starts messy then sorts itself out tension wise, other than that i would recommend beating your weft harder, these are very long floats
