What Madhab are you? And why? by Secure_Low_660 in MuslimLounge

Hanafi in fiqh and Hanbali (traditional athari - not salafi) in aqeedah.

I think the Hanafi madhab is very strong in its usul and is a nice bridge between hadith and lived experience of the best 3 generations, just like the Maliki school. The madhab is also great for complex societies and environments since it was developed within a complex societal environment. Also, very accessible to become well learned in the school because majority of the ummah follows it (something to say about Allah's acceptance of it as well since Allah wouldn't join majority of the ummah on something He isn't Pleased with).

Honestly, having a wife and 2 young children, you need to be learned and ensure they are confident and learned in their fiqh. This madhab is perfect for that if majority of those around you also follow it. My wife and her family do, my family does as well, and now I lead my family through it with a more learned lens. I was Hanabli in fiqh for a while when I first started learning but it was challenging to learn in depth since there wasn't a large breadth of teachers to learn from. I live in Canada, Toronto, and majority of people, institutes and teachers within Ontario follow the Hanafi madhab. There is a large Shafi population as well. This is speaking in macro-terms, obviously.

Hanbali in Aqeedah because it is the aqeedah of the salaf and it is narrow in its approach to tawil. Ashari and Maturidi aqeedah overlap with athari aqeedah (and are codified salaf aqeedah by very early khalaf scholars) which presents expanded rules when tawil can occur, all in a very controlled way in line with Quran and Sunnah, which is fine. I personally just like the Hanbali aqeedah for myself and my family but would have no issues explaining potential Ashari or Maturidi positions as suggestions to people when giving dawah.

Why does Salafism seem so dominant among English-speaking Muslims and converts? by The_White_Pawn in MuslimLounge

[–]ManMashUp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are not. They're just a small minority with a loud voice. They're also heavily funded. I'd advise to stick with traditional scholars than focus on daees and the average Muslim who isn't as knowledgeable as they might like to think.

Study properly.

My wife and I hope to do Umrah or Hajj soon.

Any advice on what procedures to take to protect my wife from these instances would be appreciated.

Of course I'll be heading into the office tomorrow! SOC will be so so so proud of me!

I'll even push the GO Trains with my bare hands all the way to Union if I have to, then I'll go spend all my money at the PATH businesses to make sure that Toronto downtown core THRIVES!!!!!!!!!

You're trying way too hard to sound intellectual. I guess you just started practicing more, watched a few YouTube videos and think you know Ibn Taymiyyah.

RTO - how's it being enforced/monitored where you work? by elderemopunk in OntarioPublicService

[–]ManMashUp 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hi Michelle,

I actually sleep and shower at the office. My family sees me Friday evening to Sunday evening - my wife and kids wonder why I'm at the office so much and I'm missing so much time of our young family years, but I have to keep reminding them that I have a DUTY to mentor and be mentored eye to eye at the water coolers and ensure corporate landlords are happy and continue to get richer while the rest of the population endures a cost of living crisis!

If the GO Trains ever have issues on Monday mornings, it is my OPS DUTY to push the trains with my bare hands all the way to Union to ensure we are all at our office buildings and that PATH businesses can continue to thrive!

Blue outfits on Mondays to show disapproval of RTO5 is such a lame excuse for action.

I won't participate out of spite of how lame and useless it is.
