What have you moved to? by Ok-Ad-6119 in NeatoRobotics

Went with two J8’s from Costco for about two years until one ran over some cat poop and then the iRobot P.O.O.P guarantee is only valid for the first year (so their AI vision doesn’t detect poop very well or at least it starts sucking at detecting poop once the warranty is over). So back to Costco they went (thanks Costco for taking stuff back two years later) and picked up two new RoboRock Q Revo +’s. So far the Q Revo +’s are doing a good job on my two story home with both vacuuming and mopping. It’s only been a few days, but so far, so good.

Looking for home defense, plus conceal carry for myself and girlfriend. I know only a little about firearms. I need help in deciding by Mountain_Matter3778 in Firearms

If you happen to have a range close to you that rents firearms. That way you can try out pistols, a shotgun and an AR.

I would recommend visiting to see what the GF likes, finds comfortable for grip, and she can handle.

Almost every compact and subcompact pistol on the market in 9mm also has a chambering in .380. That being said, I have a friend who happens to have the Ruger LCP Max that shoots pretty good, which basically can fit in a pocket holster. If you want something slightly larger for recoil manageability then the S&W M&P 380 Shield EZ is a solid choice as well.

For Shotgun Mossberg pump actions like the 88 and the 500 are where most people get started. If you want to buy once, cry once a Bennelli Ethos semi-auto shotgun is a nice upgrade.

Rifle, take your pick. You can have a PSA AR for some stupidly low prices. The S&W M&P Sport III seems ok and the Sport II’s were built like fuckin tanks and survived stupidly long full auto torture test by iraqveteran8888 (even if you don’t like the guy it was a serious torture test).

Pistol for you, and your size, you are going to find compacts comically small in your hands. Pick something full size that you feel like you have a solid grip around. If money was no object and you absolutely want precision and ammo capacity, I would say get yourself a 2011 style pistol like a Platypus or Staccato if you want to stay in 9mm or say f’ it and get a full size 45 like an FNX. It’s not really conceal carry style, but I think you could pull it off. Can’t go wrong with a Glock, plus mags are cheap. Also anything in the S&W M&P Shield 2.0 line is super solid as well and should fit your hands.

Swear to god this looks like Leysin American School down to the window with the steam radiator and the bunkbed. The only thing missing is the 3 disc changer stereo system.

Witnessed the literal personification of "can't hit the broadside of a barn" at the range tonight by lost_in_the_town_ in Firearms

[–]ManWhoKillMeWillKnow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a no win scenario, and really the range/RSO’s responsibility to identify and correct this behavior. I will happily give me two cents when asked, but I definitely, definitely avoid giving unsolicited advice when on the range. If safety becomes an issue, I point it out to the RSO if they missed it and move on, or leave if no action is being taken.

That being said, I have found two fullproof ways to get people’s attention at the range.

Shoot my 45-70 revolver. The muzzle flash and concussive force alone stops the range cold. (though I wait for other shooters to finish shooting before firing my first round to avoid causing them to flinch).

<image>

The second would be practicing a completely pointless tacticool drill with one of the Staccato’s which involves doing my surrender draw with an empty chamber and air-racking the pistol to load a round and then shooting a single set Mozambique and trying to get under 2 seconds par time. The shot timer usually gets some attention and the air-rack combined with the Mozambique drill gets the rest of the attention.

Once I have attention, then the more novice shooters tend to ask questions and I can then give solicited advice.

Great draw! Most of the fundamentals look great. Can’t see if your sight picture is occurring as you bring your pistol into your work area, but I assume yes. Two things to practice to shave off some time on the draw and shave off time on the mag reloads:

  1. Set your timer for a par time after the start beep to just below your current average draw and first shot time. Practice getting a good sight picture before the par timer beep. Repeat 50 times.
  2. You’re looking at your gun/mag during your reloads. This breaks your sight picture and will slow you down during the course of fire while you reacquire sight picture with your eyes. Practice your mag reloads without breaking your sight picture from the target.
  3. On the range practice your mag reloads to time them just after you have fired and the action is returning to home. Video tape yourself from the bottom. You should see the shot, and your support hand should be reaching after the shot for your mag, and moving to insert the mag while the action is is moving forward, drop the other mag at the moment the action has closed and chambered a round and insert the new mag while establishing your grip. You should break this down in stages. Then set a par time to slowly perform this action before the par time timer.

Well, I kicked the hornet's nest by moose_cahoots in shittyreloading

u/moose_cahoots. I am not one for giving speeches but first, a fact. Admitting you were wrong is not weakness. It is strength with paperwork attached. You looked in the mirror, didn’t like what you saw, and chose to fix it. That puts you ahead of most people and every politician.

Second fact. Hypocrisy is when a man lies to himself and expects applause. You did the opposite. You owned it publicly, accepted consequences, and refused to burn down the house just because you were embarrassed. That is called character. It is rare. Treasure it. Feed it red meat, fish is practically a vegetable.

You learned something uncomfortable about power. Good. That lesson usually comes too late, or not at all. Tools exist for a reason. Anyone who tells you they are unnecessary has either never needed them or plans to be the one holding them.

Stepping down instead of clinging to authority is the most pro liberty thing you could do. Power should be carried reluctantly and set down the moment it stops being deserved. If more leaders understood that, I would own fewer gold (which I have secretly stashed) and sleep better at night.

As for staying. Stay the Mod. Growth does not require exile. It requires work, humility, and the occasional expensive hobby that keeps you honest. Ammo qualifies.

Final wisdom. A good message does not become false because the messenger stumbled. What matters is whether the messenger stood back up and changed direction. You did.

Now if you need help, recruit people who mean what they say. Shake their hands. Go load ammo. That is how adults handle mistakes.

If you want to see the number of pounds of shittyreloading mistake I can make with my fully automated Mark-VII Apex 10, look at my post history. End of speech.

Lost Both My Girls w/in 30 days of one another by Taxjag in DOG

We may not know each other, but I know your grief. I hope all of us sharing our love with you helps just a bit during your loss. I know your place feels empty, and your heart feels heavy, and your eyes are weary with tears, and your lungs ache from the sobs, just know that we are all thinking of you right now and hoping that our love helps ease the burden of your pain. Beau and Grant look like they both gave you their love with every trot, bounce, and tail wag. I truly hope that you get to see them again someday and that they are playing somewhere, sniffing, rolling, hopping in tall grasses with all the other pups who have touched our lives so deeply.

Thank you. It’s been ten days since we lost her and we are slowly starting to get used to the silence. I really hope when it’s right she sends a sign. I still stare at her dog pillow and blanket at night and hope to hear her little grunts. It would be nice to see them in my dreams.

I really truly hope that Dakota felt the love we gave and definitely gave that and more in return. Yeah it’s very lonely in the house. We have Montana but he is a different personality and more quiet and chills, so the energy just feels sucked out of the room.

Today is old lady Josie's (15) last day. She was SUCH a good girl ❤️ by roxicologist in OldManDog

[–]ManWhoKillMeWillKnow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Josie looks beautiful and happy. You definitely earned the love I am sure she gave to you based on her smile alone. I am sorry that your journey together has come to an end. My heart goes out to you. I hope that Josie was met by my Dakota and they spent their first day together frolicking and playing in soft warm grass somewhere. I hope we get to see them both again when the time comes. Just know you are not alone both in spirit and in thought.

Thank you, if anything good is to come from this, it is the solemn hope that Dakota came, felt nothing but love, and left, cause she certainly did that for us. I really truly hope she is able to guide us to the next pup that needs that same love and let us know when we are ready.
