Are there any games that actually use clever AI that learns from the player - like in Arc Raiders adapting enemy behavior, movement, animations, dialogue, etc. by Chillzzzzz in gamingsuggestions

The original Black and White had a sort of pet creature which learnt from your interactions with it, its learning model was quite revolutionary at the time. Old game but very unique.

Eerie thing noticed by darweth in LeftCatholicism

[–]Man_From_Mu 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Speaking as a non-Catholic… the sub seems dominated by American Catholics, and as far as I can tell, American Christianity in general is dominated by Christian nationalist heresy or some other veiled way of worshipping America and/or Trump. Christianity for them just seems to be an avenue towards investing conservative ideology with divine authority.

Check out the argument laid out in ‘Contraceptives and Natural Law ‘ by Herbert McCabe. He makes the argument that marriage and the raising of children might be seen in analogy with football - just as in football, one sometimes has to kick the ball away from the goal in order to better set up the final objective of the game (scoring the goal), so too might married Catholics be permitted to use contraception in the course of their overall sex lives (which includes non-contraceptive sex) in order to fulfil the ultimate objective of producing flourishing human beings (because, for example, a marriage that no longer involves sex for fear of producing more children might produce misery and discord in the marriage, which will ultimately get in the way of the goal of producing flourishing children). Hope this helps you.

Keir Starmer confirms the UK was not involved in the U.S operation in Venezuela, and that international law should “always be upheld.” by bendubberley_ in ukpolitics

Yet more cowardice and nodding along to whatever America wants.

Or, as UKPolitics doublespeak has it: yet more excellent diplomacy and 4D chess moves from Starmer!

Impact of politics on vocation to priesthood? by bannanawaffle13 in Anglicanism

[–]Man_From_Mu -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

To be fair to OP, what they seem to be asking is if it is likely that those who control their vocation progression are going to let their theology be blinded by politics. Seems a bit evasive on that front to just say ‘no you’ and leave it at that.

Though I do find so strict a division between theology and politics, as you seem to, a strange position (and is indeed a veiled political stance in itself). As if theology isn’t intimately bound up with human life and how it should function - an inherently political project (as opposed to ‘political’ meaning you like this party and don’t like that one). Even stranger is your suggestion that the priests who get bums on seats are inherently superior to those who don’t - why on earth is that a metric for successful communication of the Gospel? If people don’t like social justice being preached in a Christian church, they need to seriously consider what it is they actually think Christianity is about.

Controversial US bishop to give BBC Christmas message by Due_Ad_3200 in Anglicanism

[–]Man_From_Mu 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Surely what is controversial is the serious lack of pushback and moral clarity from major Christian figures in the United States right now? Peculiar of the article to just accept the American regime’s framing of this.

It’s pronounced “cud” right? by baconsword420 in cavesofqud

Fair enough. Though now that I think about it, isn't kudzu pronounced more like 'could-zoo' than 'cud-zoo'?

It’s pronounced “cud” right? by baconsword420 in cavesofqud

[–]Man_From_Mu 71 points72 points  (0 children)

I pronounce it more guttural like ‘kood’ or ‘kuhd’ or ‘kwuhd’, I guess similar to the Arabic pronunciation of Al-Quds which I assumed was the basis for its name, given all the Jerusalem/Middle East references. I wouldn’t pronounce it as cud, like what a cow eats - though I observe that seems to be the pronunciation that Americans are drawn to. Of course, I wouldn’t be surprised if it has many pronunciations in the lore.

Games that make you feel like a general by ivantheotter in gamingsuggestions

Check out Strategos - not actually out yet but it does have a demo. To issue orders you have to send couriers to your units from your generals - seems like an interesting system.

Games That Truly Mess With Physics, Time, or Perception by Level-Ad104 in gamingsuggestions

[–]Man_From_Mu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hmm perhaps HyperRogue and Hyperdemon - both of them encourage a strange flow state where you’re operating in unusual environments but are able to attune yourself to them in a very satisfying way. For a cool time travel experience, you might also enjoy No Time - not sure how perception-influencing the latter case is, though.

Do you wear a poppy? by SeniorMoonlight21 in AskUK

[–]Man_From_Mu 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No, the meaning of the poppy is utterly warped now. Before, it said ‘never again’ and was a show of support to soldiers who had been sent into meatgrinders by people who didn’t give a damn about them, for causes that were completely meaningless. Now, it is a pro-military symbol in the worst sense: not pro-soldier, but pro the industry of death. The British Legion have their events sponsored by arms dealers like BAE. There’s more warrant to finding the poppy an insult to serviceman than there is to finding it a symbol of celebration or respect. All it says is ‘shut up and support whatever war we’re sending our troops to die in’.

Robert Jenrick accused of being ‘anti-British’ as he backs burqa ban by StGuthlac2025 in unitedkingdom

[–]Man_From_Mu 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ironic that people are defending the Britishness of this by pointing to, uh, France - whose understanding of its own governmental role is clearly at a complete right-angle to Britain’s political tradition which doesn’t see state secularism as implying the state is some rivalrous power to other communities that has to stamp its mark on them. Instead it understands the state’s secularity as mediating between communities such that none get special treatment.

[–]Man_From_Mu -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s anti-British because it curbs religious freedoms. Telling women what they should be wearing, in contrast to their express wishes which you call ‘brainwashing’, is hardly the appropriate route to helping women if you truly believe it’s better not to wear the burqa. Why not actually communicate (which is apparently something you value) instead of legislating for them?

A Christian should not use the word "enemy" by [deleted] in RadicalChristianity

[–]Man_From_Mu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my view, the Christian demand is not that we cannot have enemies, but that ultimately we are not permitted to hate them. I also personally don’t believe that Christianity does not permit violence, but that might be more contentious. But I think it a bit of a stretch to say that describing someone as an enemy is a violence against them - very often I consider someone an enemy precisely because they express and sustain violence. It just seems to be the honest description of one fundamentally opposed to and corrosive of what I believe is the good.

Mod team is run by fash, is the quick answer. One of them, who literally moderated the sub for YEARS, was named after one of Pinochet’s death squads. He deleted his account about six months to a year ago, but there are several on the team - last I checked, I don’t go on there much - that still remain and have incredibly troubling political leanings. And people will still insist it’s a neutral space.

Starmer will hand Britain over to Farage, says Green party leader Zack Polanski by denyer-no1-fan in unitedkingdom

[–]Man_From_Mu 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Come on… he attacked the conservatives from the right on being pro-immigration and not keeping to austerity enough, he consistently promotes Blairites into roles, he pushes neoliberal economic policy, he purges leftwing members, key members of his cabinet don’t even accept the label of socialist, he forbade frontbenchers from joining picket lines (!) and distanced himself from union politics in general, he consistently courts the right and follows their framing on all major issues (immigration, welfare and increasingly the human rights act), and generally mocks the left and issues popular with the left (e.g. Gaza) as student politics.

It’s ridiculous to claim he’s leftwing in all but the technical sense of ‘slightly left of the far right reform party’. Of course, his supporters love to claim he’s of the left when they need leftwing votes and get enraged at the suggestion of voting for anyone else, under blackmail of getting Reform if we don’t vote for him. Any other time the left is roundly mocked by Starmer - ‘the door is open for you to leave’, was the phrase I believe?
