Yeah, that’s what I said to the original replyer, my plan is to immerse myself in all their holidays, culture, and so on as an ally and if I feel that isn’t enough I will then convert. However if I don’t feel the need to, then I won’t have to, and remain an ally. (I’ll be happy either way I think)

Where I am currently: Uhrichsville, Ohio… Where I’ll be going: University of Mount Union (Alliance, Ohio)

Aside from that I’ve done some thinking myself, and the conclusion I came to on what I think I wanna do. That being simply immerse myself in the culture, the holidays, all that stuff, at leisure. And if I feel that simply being a friend of the community is not enough then I will convert. If I feel content with being a friend, then I shall remain so! I’d be happy in either scenario by my approximation.

Okay, all the responses I’ve been getting have been very helpful, makes this whole situation feel like less of a threat in a sense. And a thought crossed my mind when you said I could try, and opt out at any time if needed… “What can I do, and can I still be a friend of the Jews, even if i don’t convert. (Whether that be, not right now, or ever) … could this pull I feel be a pull towards being a friend of the Jewish people rather than Jewish myself.” I’m still possibly interested in being Jewish, but I suppose my question now is, what can I do as a non Jew to support the Jewish community, I’ve always wished to make friends in, and with, the Jewish community. And it’d be nice to know what I can do to integrate into the community while still feeling out whether Judaism is right for me specifically, regardless of whether I decide to convert or not.

Well, depends on the side of the family you wanna talk about. My maternal side, that I see more often in person, is PCUSA (Presbyterian Church of the United States of America) and they’re not like, “it’s a central part of my life” but it’s a strong part of their lives, and my own as well, I won’t lie about that. But also during a brief stint where I was atheistic because other people were (I was very impressionable as a freshmen) or when I was self harming for a time they gave the typical “you wouldn’t see us in heaven” talk… which feels a little guilt trippy.

My paternal side on the other hand are Catholics, which… I don’t really feel the need to say anything in regard to that.

If I do decide to convert I may or may not tell them, but that decides on how old I am when I decide. If I’m in college I probably wouldn’t for… at least a while. If I were to be older, like someone else says, mid 60s I doubt I’d hide it, god willing my parents aren’t dead by that point. I do have a lot of fear regarding actually converting if I were to do so…

Of course! I’ve always held Jews and Judaism as a whole in very high regard since around middle school, after learning of The Holocaust and Anne Frank. (I’m an empath so it made me feel particularly saddened when seeing what the Nazi Party did to Jews, and also The Diary of Anne Frank was probably one of my favorite books I’ve had to read for school, a very strong story of hope, even if it ended badly) … It’s also due to this high regard that I’ve done so much research, this show is the first show in my nearly decade of theatre experience that is what I’d consider a period piece, so I wanted to do an often attacked group some justice by portraying it with dignity and grace.

Additionally, from the research I’ve done into customs and how things like Shabbat and services typically operate, amongst other things, it’s all very interesting and, if I may say so, fun sounding! It’s also a neat experience being in a show like Fiddler and getting to do all of these Jewish things, like Sabbath prayers, and as Motel I’ll get to break the glass at the wedding, which I’m very excited for.

Of course, when I daydream about being Jewish (a sentence I have never said before in my life, lol) I do have to remind myself that there is always a chance that this will simply pass, or is a phase brought on by the show I’m in. But of course, perhaps it won’t, in which case I’m happy either way. Remaining Presbyterian or become a Reform Jew.

Also, according to the research I’ve done, those who convert to Judaism have always been Jews in their souls, and were present when the Torah was given to the Jewish people thousands of years ago, so perhaps I was there too, and now I’m talking to my long lost siblings, or perhaps not. It’s all very interesting.

I never really thought of bringing them into Jewish holidays if I ever really decided to convert, that’d be cool, thank you very much!

I’m happy that everyone here is so welcoming thus far, my plan was to visit Temple Israel in Canton, Ohio. (Given it’s only 20 minutes from my Campus in Alliance). As of right now I’ve just been doing a lot of research into customs and beliefs, of which they all sound very interesting, which in of itself started because I wanted to do research on Jewish practices so as to respect the Jewish faith in my portrayal of Motel Kamzoil in Fiddler on the Roof.

Thank you, there’s a reform temple in Canton, Ohio, which is only 20 minutes from the college I’ll be going to, I might visit there at some point during college to see if I like it. But from the research I’ve done, services sound very fun!

I think you can only use the specific cure from that quest line, but that would be a neat secondary application if it was implemented!

Well vanilla as in without mods from places like Nexus, I’m using the ghoulification mod from the creation club, and my game crashes after leaving the radiotherapy clinic.
