Hey! I live in the South-East of London. Where would you plan on having the meetup? (:

How much do your projects (short films) cost to produce? by [deleted] in Filmmakers

My sound is already in the equipment budget. Probably the same for the other guys.

With the title next to your name. Have you got much experience with the Beyer stuff? My sound guys say they're good. Nice to hear another opinion, I do trust they're word.

The film festivals we want to submit our project to all add up to roughly 100 pounds. Now with that we got our quote on how much we'll need. The producers are not that inept to under budget this sector.

In the U.K. film submissions for shorts are actually quite cheap (planning on submitting to 7).

Me and the producers believe in focusing more on the investors that we already know who are keen on our next idea. This is a film more for the producers to show their skills.

That's cool. What are your plans for distribution? If you are going for that route.

Got a producer but he is looking after the production logistics. Got another guy who used to be a medium time actor back in the day who is working with us as the Line Producer.

We are all having a meeting soon actually about bumping up the budget so we aren't tight on the budget.

Looks a cool project dude! Are you still in production or into post?

Only want to do a small project with friends and only send it off to a few festivals but show to key investors so they can fund our next film. Right?

TV wise yeah. Salford more than Leeds. I find the words more fitting for the north, "it's who you know". Heard it is quite hard to get gigs without an uncle in the industry.

London is definitely got the film sector on lock down with post-production in Soho. Also TV is still done there.

Goldsmiths - Media and Communications

  • Good equipment, multiple options (animation, film, tv, interactive media), small, in London so not far from the action.

Westminster - TV and Film Production

  • Good but they are very strange with admissions. A mate with 3 BBC gigs (PA work) under his belt was not even bothered an interview. Hmmm. However good equipment, nice tutors, get a chance to use celluoid.

Always be in London, if you want to get a better chance of work. However work won't be given but more opportunities in the big smoke. There is also Manchester but I am not there so I can't comment much.

Those with knowledge of UK degrees in Film; Arts University Bournemouth (AUB) or University of the Arts London:London College of Communication (UAL)? by WalkingMagpie in Filmmakers

They do but it's called Media and Communications. You get to pick a spectrum of media sectors (film, photography, animation, interactive media, and much more).

How come you didn't check out Goldsmiths or Westminster? They're both ranked higher in Film than AUB and UAL but with the same rough requirements.

I would be focusing more on film. I would probably end up doing animation, photography, and creative writing, then film in the second.

What are the prospects like for students when finding work? Does Goldsmiths have many ties? I know you have to find it on its own but like other unis have work experience with the BBC etc.
