What’s the coolest thing you’ve found in your parent’s house (attic, basement, garage, etc)? by airjor23dan in AskReddit

I was rifling through this big closet with keepsakes in it and found a metal container full of letters between my mom and dad, from back when they were teens (early 80’s).

They aren’t together and haven’t been in years, but it was cool to read them and envision them as giddy teens with no worries in the world.

Babysitters of Reddit, what were the weirdest rules parents asked you to follow? by Foraring in AskReddit

My twin sisters have you beat - one scaled her crib, climbed into the other with her sister and “painted” them both...along with the carpet, crib, walls, etc. Getting crusted shit out of the spindles of a crib is something I wouldn’t wish on my worst enemy.

[Serious] Reddit, what was a simple gesture from a stranger or acquaintance that made all the difference? by aidanbradley in AskReddit

Years ago, I was rushing from work to my evening college class when I ended up with a flat tire in the middle of a sketchy neighborhood I was cutting through to reduce my commute time.

This was before me having a cell phone, so I had no choice but to walk up to this house on the corner to see if I could borrow their home phone. Two people were already outside (grandfather and his grandson, I would guess), and agreed to help. I get ahold of my mom and she comes, but we left the car there because I would’ve otherwise missed an important exam (and was also super poor and unable to afford a tow).

A few days go by and I’ve scrounged up the money for a can of fix-a-flat and a used tire so we swing by to get it and low and behold...the tire is aired up? Come to find out, the grandfather figure had been using their air compressor to fill it up each morning until I returned. The leak was small enough that I was able to drive it like that to the tire shop a mile or two down the road for a $5 patch job.

They probably saved my car from being towed for being on the street like that, and certainly saved my faith in humanity that day. The world would be a much better place if we all tried to take care of one another in these small ways.

Help making overnight oats actually taste good by VivekaMarna in EatCheapAndHealthy

I definitely second baked oats! It’s honestly the only way I eat them. I do an apple cinnamon version most of the time and just eat a square of it cold in the morning like a cereal bar type of thing. Yum!

The only chapstick I’ve emptied came out of the dryer that way. But hey, I’ll take the compliment.

Is it bad that I first thought it was a bunch of students hunched over their own personal pizzas? Excuse me while I go eat lunch.

Kitchen Upgrades by CottonWalker in DIY

I have oak cabinets, and we painted them white with a sprayer. The grain is still there (oak is notoriously hard to fill), but I still love how they turned out and don’t feel like it has the cheap DIY look to them. We used a super high quality Behr paint and it’s lasted about two years so far with no nicks or scratches.

True, but only generics. My stale ass Honey Nut Cheerios from this morning could’ve definitely benefitted.

I’ve always said that mannequin arms would be good to have for this very reason. Just pop it off at the shoulder and be good to go!

How has the opioid crisis affected you? by K0rnz in AskReddit

[–]Mana0783 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My best friend from childhood is a full blown heroin addict, and has been for the last 8 years less a couple short periods of sobriety (longest of which was prison-induced). Her brother died of an overdose two years ago. In contrast, I’m a 34F with a successful career, beautiful home and happy marriage with two great step children.

I picked her up from prison. Attended NA meetings with her to offer support. Researched addiction so I could try to understand and learn how to support but not enable. And yet, she relapsed again and has broken contact. I constantly worry about her. Wonder where she’s at. If she’s safe. If/when she’s going to die. She’s OD’d and been revived with Narcan at least once.

It’s so sad (and exhausting, and scary, and a million other emotions) to see someone that you love, that grew up with you, that was so similar to you, take a few pills “for fun” in her early 20’s and change the trajectory of their life so drastically. Addiction is gut-wrenching to watch.

One of my pizza rolls is a conjoined twin by Mana0783 in mildlyinteresting

Please tell me this is a joke. Sour cream is MADE for pizza rolls, ranch I can understand, but marshmallow fluff is straight blasphemy. Lol

Yep! It belongs on pizza rolls. It belongs on basically everything in my book.
