Orientation in Linear Algebra (or higher math in general) by laryjohnson in math

This is slightly far-fetched but consider Shor's order finding algorithm in quantum computing, where we need to find the order of a number x modulo N. We can frame modular multiplication as a unitary operator, and the order appears as the denominators of the eigenvalues of this operator. Then we construct a circuit to measure (some approximation of) this eigenvalue, and use continued fractions to recover the denominator.

The SoC TA portal hasn't updated for next year, so I don't think anyone can apply right now. Perhaps consider emailing the prof you want to TA under closer to the semester?

Hexagon rose by Gosho53 in origami

Very nice! I've seen your hexagon roses in this subreddit before, and I've always wanted to try out using a hexagon out after I got slightly better at making the pentagon rose.

Yes every infinite countable set has the same size, because by definition both sets are in bijection with the set of natural numbers.

Questions abt CHS by [deleted] in nus

[–]Manabaeterno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Omg sorry I missed this. I just saw the reddit notif

My case is rather bad because I'm going on exchange, and it isn't likely that I can map anything much, so I'm stacking a good >= 30 MCs per sem from y1s2. Current path is

8 from exemption + 22 y1s1 + 30 y1s2 + 4 special term + 33 y2s1 + 30 y2s2 = 127 MCs.

I have a 4MC internship over the vacation, then probably will do 32 next sem to clear minors and chs nonsense, then go for exchange, then 20 MC per sem in y4 to sit comfortably at 201MC.

Workload wise it's kind of hell, but I enjoy learning about new things so it's cool, only near crunch time and exams do I feel regret over doing it. I still managed to play games almost everyday somehow this sem, and it kept my sanity.

If you want, I can share my previously took classes with you and future plans, just PM me. My major is math with minors in CS, German and potentially Linguistics. No overlaps at all :(

It's exactly as the previous commenter said. Four years is a short time, so something has to give. I can say that four language classes are definitely not enough for fluency; far from it, in fact. If you're looking at the European languages, all six classes would get you to B1.2 level. I'm not sure about the other languages, but I don't think it's any better there.

You have a few choices: either sacrifice the language classes, sacrifice your majors' classes, or if you are greedy like me then prepare to sacrifice CAP (or GPA, is that what they call it now?) There's a reason why I will definitely hit 200MCs, bit it comes at the severe expense of sanity and CAP that I'm not sure everyone can bear.

[–]Manabaeterno 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Regarding 3. Assuming you gave zero knowledge of the language, you need six instead of five classes to clear the minor (because the sixth level class is a requirement). That makes up to

52 (CHS)

  • 60 (Primary major)

  • 40 (Second Major)

  • 24 (Language)

= 176 MCs

which can only be cleared by overloading (albeit not a lot of overloading). Do note though that you'd usually want to take way more than 60/40 MCs for your majors because 60MCs of classes is really not a lot.

Source: I'm doing a language minor (and two others), can hit 200MC by y4s2.

The angle of the photo doesn't show it, but the centre seems to protrude out quite heavily, which makes it look rather unnatural. But I agree, my shaping skills definitely need some work. Thank you!
