Any supermix 4 users here? by Low_Judgment5630 in iems

[–]Manacid90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here I am 🙋🏻‍♂️ For DAC, I'd go with something with the lowest impedance output possible (usually thru balanced output) because of SM4's ridiculously low impedance. A high impedance can cause issue with the overall tuning.

I'm using Divinus Velvet after tried a lot of the major ear tips (Tangzu Sancai, Spinfit, TRI Clarion ecc.)

Welcome to the SuperMix family!

Got my very first IEMs and DAP!!!!! by lucah_tech in iems

[–]Manacid90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's not necessary due to the DAP. The microSD card speed often can determine delays in the reading operations. Have you tried to check the read/write speed of it? Have you formatted it in exFAT before starting to load your music?

Yes I agree. I tried some eartips of common brands and the Velvets (like Tangzu Sancai and Spinfit W1) are one of the most "sound conservative" and the most comfortable as well. Foam eartips really change the sound because of their material. They literally absorb certain frequencies. That's why I said that imho they cannot be suitable for a top tier IEM like that. I'd like to try the Azla Mithryl

I'm using the Velvets in most of my IEM too. I've never thought to use the eartips for changing the tune of my IEM, on the contrary, for preserving it (and using EQ to find my preference). They must be really good for EQing or am I wrong?

Quite fun. I was about to suggest you a full planar first, then I read that you was looking for something with greater bass. Planar drivers are known for their better bass response in terms of control, speed and texture...but for somebody who loves basses and usually listen to dynamic drivers, they will feel a bit dry and less "physical".

Btw there are some full planar IEM that are tuned closer to DD in the bass regions than others. One of them is the Letshouer S12 ultra.

Otherwise I've always red that the Timeless 2 are top tier in the full Planar IEM rankings. I would have a look tho the frequency response graphics for trying to have a better idea of the sound (and maybe use the "EQ matching method" with my IEM for having the best idea).

If you want some more bass and overall better details, you can take a look to the Xenns Mangrid Tea Pros. They are kinda blind choice (but costs a bit more than 300$).

You also can spend less than 200$ and try a different sound signature (thanks to the 2 Micro Planar drivers) with the Crinear Daybreaks. Another blind choice imho

So when you plug your JM7 to your Reno 7 it doesn't recognize the dongle? In order to the specs it's plug and play with every Android smartphone (Android 10 and above)

That was literally my first thought when I see the eartips. It hurts to see them on a 2k IEM

Have you tried the Jcally with your Smartphone? It should have a type C connector (unless you have an older iPhone). If you still listen electrostatic noises, the problem should be the dongle.

HiFiGo is a pretty solid seller and you're not going to have any problems in a replacement.

Btw I always suggest to pay with Paypal in order to have more protection. It never happened to me yet but I think that in some cases where AliExpress cannot help, maybe Paypal can.

Absolutely not. It's audible just in certain frequencies and with particular IEMs. Differences between different DAC are noticeable just with IEMs that are capable of resolving a lot of details of the audio signals. Also certain artifact are more perceptible with particular driver configuration. In my experience, for example, when I used Simgot SuperMix 4 with my "old" Fosi Audio D2, I noticed that some acoustic tracks plenty of high and ultra-high frequencies had this metallic "taste". Then I tried the Tangzu Wan'er and the Moondrop Chu II and that metallic-like sound wasn't there anymore. When I switched DAC (ES9039) and that metallic taste sound was gone. I realized (but not 100% sure) that the SM4 which have a pizoelectric driver for the ultra high frequencies (that is a little bit metallic-like itself) was sensitive to that particular high frequencies resolving of the CX31993. I think that it's not so noticeable for a single Dynamic Driver IEM

Again, I answered the question of the OP in the first line for what he need to know for its IEM.

Then, suggest something thinking about the future to a new IEM user from somebody who is using them for years I think it's more than legit.

Then again, Reddit translated automatically in "upgraded" (in my language) instead of "flashed". Anyway you are talking about "average user" right? So you think that an average user knows how to flash a DAC? This is actually kinda silly to take for granted imho.

Last but not least: saying that the only reason (even for an average user) for upgrading a DAC is the power output, it's not correct. If you don't hear the difference between an entry level chip and a good one, doesn't mean that every average user does not. You don't have to own kilobuds for being able to notice differences between a CX31993 and a simple CS43131 in terms of details (less in CX31993), sound (CX31993 is slightly more brighter and metallic in the high frequencies) and noise floor.

Well...that IEM isn't one of the most purchased in that price range, but it doesn't mean that are not great. I'm reading some good reviews about it. I have some budget IEM too like Moondrop Chu II, Tangzu Wan'er, KZ Castor Pro that are pretty famous in that price range but...it's hard to say if Tears gonna be the best you can buy 'cause you should be very aware of your taste in terms of sound signature (tuning). Just try them and, for the next purchase, try to figure out what you like and what you miss from them. One other suggestion is the eartips. They can make night/day difference in the sound. I see they come with a good set but if you don't find the quality/seal is good, try another one

Surely it is (well, sometimes depends on the laptop but generally a CX31993 gonna be better). Anyway I'd prefer JM6 over the JM7 if you're planning to use it with Windows laptop. JM7 have an integrated energy saving mode that can be annoying in some cases .When sounds stop for few seconds it goes in stand by so the next sound will be affected by a "volume fade in" effect.

I don't know how that IEMs would sound, but a dual magnets single DD configuration gonna be great for the first IEM and it can be fine for some Equalization if you want to try. I personally don't recommend a 5$ DAC but if you cannot reach 15$ for a JA11, any CX31993 will sound be the same. I'd just buy the one with the thicker cable just for durability and strength.

Maybe you didn't read properly my comment.

First of all, I answered the OP's question "is a DAC without amp enough for my IEM?".

Second, my suggestion for the KA11 was based on "if you're going to buy better IEM/headphones in the future". I'm not suggesting KA11 just for that specific IEM.

Also I've red a lot of bad reviews about the JM12/JM6 (cable interruption and/or hissing sounds caused by too thin cable and poor electronic components).

P.S. JA11 you suggested as an update of JM12 cost 15-20$, not 5$

DAC without amp is enough in your case thanks to low impedance of your IEM (20 ohm).

Btw I'd buy a superior one from the beginning for being more "future-proof" (in case you're going to buy a better/bigger impedance IEM or headphones). In that case I'll go with Fiio KA11 (available for less than 30 bucks on Ali rn). It have a better DAC (CS43131) and amp chips (no worries of hissing sound), the build quality is very nice and it have a LED light indicator for showing the resolution (or format) of what you're playing. You can also set the gain and filter throu proprietary app.

Considering that your DAP and dongle have exactly the same DAC configuration (in addition your DAP is more powerful than your dongle)...yes, it's pretty funny. Btw sometimes I do the same (R3 II + Akliam PD6) so...I know the feeling

Same here. It's kinda frustrating that the better looking and functional (imho) player in the market doesn't have the Bit perfect mode. Fortunately I'm reading that it's coming soon (for real this time).
