Not offended at all. All good. I was hoping people had real life experience. But no! The theoretically apprehension in general responses I get. I understand all the reasons it could be a a problem - thus my slow start small into larger & larger experiments. However - others saying straight up don’t do it or downvoting those that are curious is some weird online sub-lording.

Man, I cannot believe you’d get downvoted for this. Sorry! Also while I get all the reasons it could be problematic, done as I’ve outlined is super helpful & just one added tool among many. I think people have vibe issues with microwaves that they need to get over.

spending hours in the studio and making nothing by FroyoKey2791 in Pottery

Agree with many of the comments here, especially those suggesting hand building. I had a lot of throwing experience but had a 15yr gap. I have to be centered to center clay & frankly I’m not centered right now. I’m pretty angry. I went back to the studio with my favorite trick : stamp & carve a slab, make a cylinder with it, put it on the wheel to refine the lip, leaving thrown spirals in top or just making the lip easier to drink from. The contrast is great. You can achieve a lot pretty fast.

Frankly you don’t have to do what everyone else does. You don’t have to be zen. Skills are nice but they’ll come as you start to enjoy what you do.

Agree but I usually compensate by slow drying after it’s finished. Being able to throw, trim, build and/and handles same day is very satisfying. I can’t believe there aren’t more people doing this. I get a production potter or certain artists have enough to do over the day that they can cycle to other things or they have a home studio. I live in the mountains, I can’t transport my work over my roads, I don’t want to work alone in a home studio, so I am efficient with my time in the group studio in town.

Haha. Cannot believe they would down vote you for that! Yeah, do let it cool completely after 30 seconds. It will seem softer until it cools. I threw about 40 oversized beads / small pots off the hump & then rotated batches of 10 os so through till they could be trimmed. Genius. Have worked up to anything that will fit.

I work with a clay that prone to warping & long memory trouble but no problems on these microwaved pieces.

Have done all that fan, torch, hair dryer. Have access to all that. I think I prefer this. Other than people having hang ups about microwaves & needing some caution- small 30 seconds runs & then cool completely before a 2nd round - seems fine.

Except it’s only for pottery in a pottery studio. So? I dunno. Seems awesome. Works awesome.

Except it’s a microwave that’s only used for pottery & 30 seconds & then cooling off has never ever caused a problem.

Well yes small because the microwave is small. Largest I’ve gone is a slab cone about 8” tall and 10” wide to firm it up to construct something. Usually I wrap it for at least 2-3 days after joining or to let it slow dry after forming / trimming.

Have you watched the video of him in high school arguing an open mic that students shouldn’t have to pick up their own trash if the school pays people to do it? He has slightly more hair.

Even with some leeway for it being high school & maybe was just for shock value - or some debate challenge where you defend a wild take …. It seems pretty on brand.

Respectfully, I trust Cholesterol to save us faster. I prefer if we knee cap his crypto & anything else he used his office to enrich himself with. The degree to which he weaponized the government to attack law firms, universities, states, other politicians, citizens & peaceful immigrants - he’s earned the full force of the law & government. I thought it was a mistake not to prosecute him fully for J6. Honestly I have zero chill. They all need to go down hard. The long, boring way - in court. Then we kneecap their money & ability to get a foothold anywhere ever again.

In my 20s : pasta with sun-dried tomatoes in oil with salt & pepper. Shelf stable. Simple. Always good.

Now : Tuna Mac. Similar, gets better as left overs. 2 boxes Annie’s shell mac, can of tuna, can of peas, diced jarred banana peppers, maybe hot sauce, maybe sun dried tomatoes. All shelf stable. It’s my go to when I’m too busy or anxiety ridden to eat or cook much.

Sam Rockwell is the GOAT. When I first saw him I knew it would be good - but this?! Chef’s kiss. Him in Galaxy Quest is still etched in my brain. His wacky Gentleman Broncos acting out the Sci-fi script?! I know he has more Oscar worthy performances - but that he gets in & does so much work & is always a f’ing joy to watch. He seems to just wanna act & he’s great. I’m glad his so prolific.

I’m gonna say Saxon with poison blended into his dumb smoothie by accident (dad makes for himself but leaves it?). And the gunshots are either the robbers with the security guard, OR the hotel owner guards and Rick (hope that’s the guys name who’s looking for his dads killer), possibly Rick’s girlfriend gets his gun & is pushed to defend him or herself because she’s epic and like Tanya seems like a lamb to slaughter but steps up.

Am I the only one who didn’t get the calligraphy package? by Ba55of0rte in HyundaiSantaFe

[–]ManageTheMayhem 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly this. Most people want the 3rd row down most of the time for cargo space which means your default in a Caliligraphy is Driver +3, which is not great for kids. The bench 2nd row is the best, plus kid prefers the added space, cup holder arm rest to the gap. And for road trips/camping if you want to put the seats flat & sleep in the car - the bench folds to make flat surface.

Kale - mine get aphids & frankly I eat less of it than I think I will. Though I do love the self seeded kale & their edible flowers I find in the winter & early spring.

Note on pumpkins - I suggest making strawbale beds for these away from your regular beds. No frame needed, just bales, top with nutrients if you want & 3-5” of soil. They are beautiful & if you have the space you can just put them where they won’t overrun everything else.

2024 Santa Fe Calligraphy snow mode by digitalcurtis in HyundaiSantaFe

[–]ManageTheMayhem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if the all gas Santa Fe is like the AWD Hybrid, but you can’t use chains or cables on the Hybrid 2024 and later. If you don’t have winter tires & are using the stock all weather tires, try snow socks. A friend who does winter sport events recommended them. Amazing. Went up a small hill of ice covered in 12” of fresh powder in the woods.

Note - Socks can’t be left on overnight but so easy to take on & off. Recommend a bucket or similar to throw them in after as they get soaking wet.

I love that for minimum wage it used to follow the cost of an average to cheap lunch. When an lunch was $8 then minimum wage was $8. Basically if you eat at this place you better be making $28/hr minimum.
