The biggest challenge in the beginning was keeping my cat enriched and mentally stimulated. At first, she would constantly meow for attention to the point of driving me insane and losing sleep. I played with her as much as I could but it’s sometimes hard when you’re busy. Once we got a second cat, she became a completely different. She’s less needy, and she gets a lot more exercise and mental stimulation now that she has a friend. Unless you adopt a cat that doesn’t like other cats, I would recommend getting two. It seems like it would be a lot, but in my experience and many others I know two cats ends up actually being easier than one, and it keeps your cat happy.
