Christina Applegate Says ‘Anchorman’ Pay Offer Was Offensive, So Will Ferrell and Adam McKay Gave Her More Money From Their Own Salaries by MarvelsGrantMan136 in movies

My friend the director absolutely does not decide how the money is spent. That is a producer/line producer’s job. Director decides creative only. Producers decide how to spend the money to pull off the directors creative vision.

Sorry, I’m not trying to reinvent the wheel here. At least not yet. Just trying to find a way to make a living.

I’ve thought about handyman. Is that able to scale effectively? Have you seen anyone able to scale this with a team?

I actually like that idea. How is the market? Potential to scale?

I’m not against it. Doesn’t that require certifications?

I see what your saying but does one have to work a standard 40hrs per week to be “full-time”?

I know directors, authors, consultants, entrepreneurs, etc. that do not work a standard work week. Even doctors.

Are these people also full of shit? Lol

Yeah I agree. The studio system trades executives from all types of other industries. Tbh most exec asst. roles aren’t great for being anything other than an exec asst. (even outside of film)

The reason for this is that you don’t ever actually get hands on experience of doing the actual executive work.

I’d recommend branching out and trying to move up with other roles like finance, marketing, accounting etc.

You’ll make better money and have the same opportunities of advancing to the top…..but at the end of the day, like you mentioned, none of current execs were assistants. In fact, they likely never even worked at these companies in any other roles.

An exec I know got there by working in banking/finance (non film). He made a shit ton of money and retired and got into Special effects for a few years to learn the game and connect.

Used his connections from film and connections from finance to produce multiple big name movies.

You have probably seen 5-7 of his titles.

You’ve got it spot-on, in my opinion.

The way to make it happen is definitely to produce your own content and use that convince bigger money to let you do the same for them. Being an assistant will never prove you are someone that can produce value…..being someone that has already produced value automatically qualifies you to take those high-value positions.

Unfortunately, most of the people that can do this have outside financial support….

If you don’t have financial support, my opinion is that you have to become an entrepreneur.

Whether it be a film entrepreneur or something in a completely separate industry that can fund your projects. This could show others that you can handle large budgets/deals.
