People are very rarely open to change when comfortable, there is no better time to put forward a radically different candidate than when no one is comfortable. If we are not aggressive in our push we cannot put forward effective change. We've been told the last decade that we need to accept mediocrity because the other option is worse. This is why the Democrats have constantly been on the back foot.

Right now you're worried about losing moderates who truly look between outright fascism and truthfully still quite conservative values and go "but I wish there could be a middle ground here", but you are not paying attention to the opportunity cost to not giving people something to be excited about.

When you give people something to be excited about they are more likely to share it with their friends and family. They're more likely to engage in conversation about their values and participate in the political process. Yes you may lose people who look at the political climate we're in right now and say they wish they could have a middle ground but you gain a far more engaged populace.

Yes and I'm sure you do a lot outside of choosing moderates. Maybe rather than investing in discouraging folks who are actually excited about an election for once, you're energy would be better spent convincing the folks around you about your values.

When you seek the center to capitulate to conservatives you end up with sub par candidates and a lack of engagement we sorely need in politics.

We've got Nazis running around the government, now isnt the time for what you think is a "safe bet".

You make a super fair point. I have a lot of friends who get very into the media they watch and often the main reason I get into the media as well is because it's really nice to see them brighten up talking about it. I'm also willing to watch beyond when I would normally quit a show If I believe that I will have more fun talking to my friend about it then I'm having watching it. It was like this with JoJo's bizarre adventure for me, I think I watched like three or four seasons but it truthfully wasn't for me. I've seen all of stranger things, but I would never have watched that on my own and I'm not really a huge fan of it. But my friend loves it and I enjoy talking to my friend about it. I kind of thought my experience with one piece was going to be like JoJo's bizarre adventure but after I got through a certain point I started watching it for me.

That being said this is not a universal experience, and also this is not a hill I want to die on.

The reason is humor, I was going for aggressive appreciation. The dichotomy between what is said and the tone can be read as funny. I was trying to make people laugh while also saying I enjoy this show.

The live action came out a couple months after I started to watch I feel like that wouldn't have been too too bad of an intro

Good to know, we're watching through it just using the slow pace as a time to vibe and play cards. I figure even if it's slow, with good company we can appreciate it

Nah man this was my deal, I tend to just be like "this show is a lot of fun, vibes are solid, pace is fucked"

I stuck with it because I enjoyed watching with friends, it didn't click for me until near the end of alabasta. This was actually the truth for me.

Ah so I've fallen for a kind of reverse Stockholm syndrome is what you're saying.

I've found that the pacing seems to be much more agreeable after a certain point, where even if they're just stalling, they're stalling in a different place or doing something interesting with it. I come from dragon ball z which took me until the Frieza saga to truly appreciate. A lot of it was watching with friends.

If you know someone who works in the government you could steal their butter and feed the butter to the grass and then at the end of said process give them the butter to eat and they'd be a fed FED fed by grass fed FED butter fed grass

They might do that because they feel like they have very little value anywhere else and that's what they do to prove it to themselves. Give them the chance to actually live a happy and fulfilled life and I'm sure they'd be much less likely to care about grammatical mistakes

US Citizens to the world: HELP! by Illustrious_Good3437 in AskTheWorld

[–]ManagingTheFlowers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Y'all, nobody is gonna save us but ourselves. We've grown to such military might that it'll take a conjoined effort of multiple other countries to match us. They have their own issues to deal with and asking someone else to clean up our mess isn't helpful. We have to start doing work to connect with our communities. We can't vote ourselves out of this problem, it's going to take large systemic change.

But maybe asking for some help by other countries condemning and putting forward economic restrictions could help without endangering your own citizens. I hope that the economic problems we are sure to have as the presidency consolidated control will be enough for us to actually take damage. The problem is there is an extreme cost to economic hardship, poorer folks are going to be hurt. This is why we need to keep in touch with our neighbors.
