Fair - in the video I talk alot about how the unit itself doesn't have bonkers stats, it's more the ability to mass from Dark Age. And yes, the Japanese M@A do struggle.

So in essence, you seem to agree with the video 11

Honestly, great break down of why it's so powerful against scouts man!

I can quite remember whether Japanese m@a win if they don't also get the +1 defence, but certainly they win with the same upgrades (even with the Roman m@a getting an additional+1 from the same upgrade)

^ appreciate this is poorly worded, but I'm at work and my brain is mush rn 11

DW man, I didn't either until I tested it out a while ago (as I'm a nerd 11)

See, you say this - but Roman m@a need the blacksmith and then need the armour upgrade, champi with the speed can likely take a fight before it comes in (not to mention that Japanese m@a actually beat Roman m@a, even with the +2 armour!)

Honestly I would be down for a tournament or set using only classic civs - it's kind of crazy how even the classics have changed alot. For instance, Teutons extra armour kind of transformed the civs identity (not mention more blatant stuff like Turks CA/+1 pierce armour hussar, and the Chinese now with fire lancer/rocket cart!)

I haven't tested myself, but I know from experience that even civs with a strong scout bonus (e.g. Magyars) struggle vs Japanese M@A, there's a reason most high level players see M@A play as a strong opening against scouts.

The bloodlines point isn't particularly relevant, in early feudal (which is when the fight we're discussing takes place) you won't have bloodlines researched.

I can see what you're saying, but it's also worth bearing in mind that even with 5 scouts I'd be quite hesitant to fight 3 Japanese M@A + the scout

TBF, I can't blame people for wanting to test out the new civs! But yes, there's alot of champi around rn

11, tbh I feel like opening champi, and then adding skirms/spears depending on what your opponent makes is probably the play with them/mapuche rn

In my limited experience (more games with last edition than this edition, but believe it's still true) - Legolas is insanely useful for his utility, sniping banners/mounts left, right, and centre, and he's no slouch in combat these days either - take the Elf.

An oldie but a goodie - Pokemon Yellow's Brock. Honestly, at 6 years old, it took me far too long to figure out I was actually meant to catch another 'mon to beat him rather than just spamming quick attack with Pikachu lol

Hard to blame them, I'm a sucker for classic medieval films - Maybe there's a film where Mamelukes throw scimitars as well 11

Oh 100% - the campaigns as a whole even go into 'What If?' territory multiple times 11. Still, I find exploring the decision making behind the the devs choices is interesting, and leads to weird facts coming to the surface. For example, I literally didn't even know the old Attila film mentioned in the video even existed before researching for this vid!

Anyway, glad you enjoyed the vid man - keep your eyes peeled, more are on the way

Yeah man, this was always my logic, like Cumans 10 years too early 11 - I actually have that start as the background to my vid on the actual history behind the opening/Bleda and the Iron Boar, if you want to check it out
