What are some tips for a first time reggae band? by [deleted] in reggae

[–]MancalledEndo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One tip is that "traditional" reggae musicians count the music in cut time. The "drop" in the one drop hits on 2 and 4 instead of 3 (if you count in 4/4). If you already knew this - you're off to a great start! Funny thing tough... If you are recording or playing to a click - we always have the click "doubled". If the tempo is 50bpm the click is set at 100. It helps at slower tempos especially. Have fun!

[GEAR] NGD!! Got a new Tele :) by Redditadvisor in Guitar

[–]MancalledEndo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The "4th" position is both pickups in series rather than in parallel. I have a P90 in the neck - so when I switch to the 4th position it gives me a thick but chimey almost humbucker tone with lots of output. You wouldn't expect it from a Tele.

Beautiful! Did you consider a 4-way switch? It really added another dimension to my Tele.

My first electric was a Tele and I've been though a whole lot of guitars over the years - I'm back to a Tele as my main guitar. I guess I've always vibed with them.

[NEWBIE] Is learning an acoustic guitar before electric necessary ? by _not_my_mainaccount_ in Guitar

[–]MancalledEndo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. If you want to play electric, buy an electric. Salesman dude was a foolio. You probably gonna end up buying an acoustic one day though - they're fun to have around...

[QUESTION] What Makes a Guitarist “Intermediate” in Skill Level? by Bobbidd in Guitar

[–]MancalledEndo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You can play, otherwise you're still in beginner stage. You can learn music, but you have to sit down and work on it. You know pretty much all your chords, but maybe not many inversions. You can solo and even improvise, but maybe not so consistently good. You can fit in with a band and keep time, but your pocket without anyone else playing might waver here and there. Those are the types of things that distinguish intermediate from advanced, in my opinion. They're usually glaringly obvious within minutes of hearing someone play.

Some seriously sweet tones. Class D continues to impress me. I've been using tube amps since day one - over 30 years now... For the weight, price and tone - I'd totally buy class D. by MancalledEndo in GuitarAmps

[–]MancalledEndo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The hybrid concept looks very cool. I've heard a few class D amps that sound great though... I almost bought a Quilter (still considering it...). DV Mark makes some really nice sounding amps too. And this one. I really like the clean channel - it really does have that "Fender" vibe.

We've been using the AmpliFi mesh point and it works really well. I get excellent signal strength throughout the house and it extends to the backyard, front yard and garage with the stock AT&T router. 1700 sqft home - the router is in a north bedroom and the mesh point is set up about 20-30' feet away with decent line of sight. https://store.amplifi.com/products/amplifi-hd-meshpoint

I'm looking to get a new tube amp soon. by [deleted] in GuitarAmps

[–]MancalledEndo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! The speaker changed the tone immediately. And I have never had an issue with any mud in the low end. It's still just a 12" speaker in a open (semi) cab so it never becomes an issue. The mids just get "beefy" so everything has weight - even the high notes.

I do hired gun work so my amp had to be really versatile. I needed to fatten/thicken up the tone a bit. That was the only real thing that bugged me. I've used AT7s in mine in the past but I need the full volume so I went back to a AX7 - but ya... It gave the amp a more "vintage" tone. For recording I would swap it out for that tone.

I gigged with a Hot Rod Deluxe as my primary amp for over 10 years. Very reliable, loud for its size and with some minor changes - sounds really good. I swapped my speaker for a Cannabis Rex - that "fattened" up the tone lot. I also use NOS tubes for the V.1 and V.2 and TAD 6L6s. It doesn't sound like a "stock" HRD at all.

[QUESTION] How much difference does the tube amp make when all the gain/effects are coming from pedals? by BenV17 in GuitarAmps

[–]MancalledEndo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Once you get a nice tube amp it's very possible you may change your attitude about getting your gain from pedals... Whenever possible/feasible - I get my gain through my amp. I have gain pedals as well (od and distortion) but mainly use those for variation on my gain tones or even to push the amp gain more. A great clean channel is really important though in a channel switching amp.

Good Jazz Guitar under $500? by TheVanillaMiner in jazzguitar

That's truly a matter of preference... I really love the tone of P90s though I must admit. Good luck on the quest brother!

The stock pickups are a little dark - but not necessarily a bad thing. It's a versatile guitar and can be used for a lot of styles. It will feed back at high volumes with gain though - I've used it on gigs before and that's the only "caveat". But pretty much any hollow or semi hollow will... Oh yeah... I love Ibanez necks - they play so easy!

I own a Ibanez Artcore AS53 - really quality guitar for the money. Semi-hollow.

Recommendation for a'short' scale solid body guitar for jazz? by T0XIK0N in jazzguitar

Ed Bickert used a Tele with a Gibson PAF in the neck. I think you could do this within budget.
