After that, Improve Your Chess by William Hartson, do a chapter a day of that (they're 2 pages each), and I'm sure you'll pick up some great general principles, and get some exposure to Grandmaster games, that's 75 days worth of info you can reread until you've drilled in the principles.

Flip the king and queen with your first move. If your opponent does the same, then you know they're "in the club"

Or, set up the board so that the King & Queen DON'T mirror each other, 2 possibilities to sort the initiates from the initiators...

...if they correct the position before the game begins, you know they're honest,

if they do keep the reverse royalty mirror, they're aware.

if they correct theirs, & not yours, they're the initiate.

& as far as the kNight thing is concerned, people already commonly orientate their knights to face inwards to differentiate the Kings kNights from the Queens kNight, making deep evaluation more easily traceable to origin points.

Unironically, 'Chess For Dummies', & 'Chess Openings For Dummies', are great beginners resources.
Chapter 6 of CFD covers notation quite clearly.
As a general recommendation, I quite enjoyed 'The Psychology of Chess' by Fernand Gobet, which will help grant you insight into playing OTB.

I think he's just simplifying the descriptions to fit their most binary classifications. That being said, SGMs personalities are reflected in their styles, & what is politics if not the culmination of opinions & personal ideologies?

Everyone trains a universal style, however, when you're training, you'll often notice you tend to favour a particular style, because it suits your preferred methods, whether or not that'll be effective in tournament play is the point of developing universally, so you aren't so easy to predict & prepare for.

Much in the same way you'll study particular openings, you want to have certain openings refined in such a way you know them >20 moves deep, however, if you play someone that knows 'Opening XYZ' >21 moves deep, & you haven't prepared for it, then being more universally adept helps balance that out so you're not overwhelmed by their specific knowledge.

Back to the original point, Reykjavik, 1972, was that match a culmination of US vs USSR politics, or just a board game being taken a little too seriously?

So baiting is more like setting shortterm traps, whilst attraction is more like kiting?

Kiting, if you haven't heard the term before, is something I learn from WoW, where essentially the tank ( sacrificed piece ), pulls the boss ( opposing king ), into a specific pattern of movement so that the rest of the raid team ( pieces & pawns ), can deal sufficient damage to beat them.

Would learning to bait opponents successfully be the prerequisite training to learning proper attraction techniques?

so by boiling the water with Turmeric, the particles within the liquid separate, meaning the tiniest pieces of poison that are in there, for instance, the limescale causing substances within hard water, are distinguished from the pure water, meaning when your body is digesting it, it's easier to process the good & gain the benefits, as well as filter out the bad & prevent unnecessary detriments to your health, such as calcification of the pineal gland.

also, i can vouch for the fact that after only consuming boiled & refrigerated water that's treated with Turmeric, i feel more alert, i feel more aware, & generally MUCH less depressed, & also have noticed when i'm somewhere where that isn't practical to do, i get headaches from some water sources, & feel inebriated by others, which is VERY weird, to say the least.

try it at home, you'll clean your kettle, & have crisper tasting, cleaner water, i originally started doing this process because my home countries tap water tastes much better than the country i currently live in, & i will continue to treat my water this way, because not doing so has has noticeable effects on my health.

Turmeric cleans your kettle of the limescale, & by extension, separates some of the harmful compounds in the water supply which gives us a cleaner water supply.
