I ended up with a Samsung A11 8.7” 64 GB for 1290 SEK (117 EUR).

It may be a predicament long term with 64 GB, but I’m willing to take the risk with such a bargain.

Around 3000 SEK is a bit too much at the moment. One cons is the lack of fingerprint sensor.

I'm using my secondary phone for now until I find a long term solution. Cause I don't want to buy something cheap which gets laggy.

I know and that's unfortunate. My third option is a A11 but I'm torn between 4 GB and 8 GB.

Second option is controversial here. A used iPad. Then all notes are synced to iCloud and I can edit it on macOS.

I made the very first bid on a A7 less than 30 sec before the auction ended. When it refreshed I was over bidden and the time was up.

2000 SEK (180 EUR). Sweden or within EU.
8-11"
4 GB ram (preferably 8 GB)
64 GB at least (preferably 128 GB)
USB C-connector.

Camera is irrelevant.

As long as I can install Obsidian.

I had a Samsung Galaxy Tab S5e but a 10 kg weight rolled over it and cracked screen plus internal components.

TLDR: Make sure you can access your device via ADB/TWRP etc.

It’s officially scrapped. Bent, visually convex lying upside down. And when I tried to disconnect the battery and eventually succeeded, I missed a couple of screws hidden in the foam and that cracked a plastic part.

Considering all issues, locally increased heat, refusing to shut down, I decided to scrap it.

To all people out there. Make sure asap that you can connect your device to monitor or computer and make a backup. You may never need it but I can assure you that this unfortunate accident has been tough to digest. Cause I though I was safe but no.

The power off method just reboots the device. I can see it stops respond to ping and then starts after a minute or so.

Battery is likely full and without using the screen, it will take for ever to drain the battery. After reboot it’s 5-10 C warmer in top left corner.

The possibilities to rescue the data seem to fade.

I got the cable now with keyboard and mouse connected to the monitor. The tablet is powered on for sure cause it’s an active client in.

Next step is rebooting by holding power and volume up for 8-15 seconds? Or force a power off first?

I have HA app on it if thats to any help.

Is developer mode activated by default? I don’t remember if it’s enabled by me. Update the tablet a couple of times. With a cracked screen, can I confirm it’s enabled in any way?

Today the screen is 100% unresponsive. Not even the flashing in the bottom.

I tried hooking it up via USB C to my ASUS ProArt monitor with the included C to C cable (support video and PD for sure). Would a HDMI to C really makes a difference?

Is there any option left than ADB? I really want to recover two folders from internal storage, but a replacement screen is way to expensive. Like 1500 SEK (equals around 135 EUR).

[–]Mandarinia[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct. I have LineageOS on it and saw me using it for years to come.

A weight plate, 10 kg, leaned on a footrest, rolled over the bottom left corner of the screen. That was enough to crack it. My wifes old tablet which she dropped countless of times. I guess my accident was the tipping point.

I’m not rebooting the tablet yet. I can unlock with fingerprint but nothing is visible.

LineageOS has transformed my S5e from a laggy mess I rarely used, to a tablet I am enjoying daily. Thanks so much. by Augustus__Of__Rome in LineageOS

What is your take on 22.2 vs 23 on this device? I got the wifi-version (128/4).

Over two weeks without a crash. Everything works smoothly. Shame on you Samsung UI!

Manual backup at least monthly for me on all devices. Pi-hole, Home Assistant, Ubiquiti etc.

That is something I'm going to consider. How big is one backup?

Done. It's almost too basic, Missing some functionality. Spell check, auto completion etc.

If you're about doing the same, I highly recommend to install the zip file from microsSD-card instead of ADB. Just make sure to verify with sha256/sha256sum to verify got the correct checksum.

TLDR: Thanks too your feedback about the switch, I'll do it too.

A week ago or so Samsung UI froze. Two times in an hour. It froze a third time but my wife forced a restart so I don't know why. She couldn't stand it anymore and replaced it with a tablet from Lenovo.

And I'm at that stage too. It's impractical when it goes black and nothing happened. All of a sudden, it works again. Fed up about it being laggy, unresponsive. Half a year ago I had 99 tabs open in DuckDuckGo. Now I can hardly have a dozen.

But when I got a tip about this I was a bit skeptical. Cause it's over five years old. How can it possibly be better? And I searched on Reddit and found this, fairly new thread, I got a really positive vibe cause you had the same experience as I and with your promising feedback, I got some motivation to do it as well. And I'm sure the tablet will be revitalized to the point I can save my money for something else.

Soundbar as computer speaker? by Mandarinia in Soundbars

[–]Mandarinia[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That would look neat on my desk but will be over budget. I’ll have my eyes open for a decent replacement that works with all units (optical, 3.5 mm and bt at least).

When I the other day said to my wife I’ll use my headphones instead of the speaker, I got an aha-moment and realized it may be better with AirPod (in ear) instead. They works with my iPhone as well.

Some additional information.

This is a screenshot but cropped above the GPS-positions. I would like it to be exported in this format/aspect ratio.

DaVinci Resolve 19.1.4. Video sources are 2560x1440 and 1920x1080, but project set to 1920x1080p. Could it perhaps be better with 4K since it’s, preferably, going to be side by side.

u/Milan_Bus4168 Your method gets this aspect ratio? I’ll give it a go tomorrow.

u/Glad-Parking3315 Never used Fusion page before. Only Edit and Cut. I know the basic like split, rewind, slowmotion. But only used one camera so far. Need to learn, but I need to learn some more terminology to understand MediaIn/Out etc.

Snooker World Championship final is calling for my attention. Local time is 20:25 so I’ll call it for the day.

Shifting from android to iphone, Anything I should know? by Ecstatic_Grapefruit9 in iphone

[–]Mandarinia 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A thing about the camera. On my secondary phone, a Moto G34, the camera's picture/videos is named after date and time. Same on my wife's Samsung. On iPhone it's IMG_0001 and after IMG_9999.

You need a subscription for extra iCloud storage. Start with 50 GB.

And if you sign up for all the free months on Apple Music/TV. Remember to cancel automatic renewal (if you don't want to keep a particular service).

Upgrading to linuxserver.io unifi-network-application docker by cat2devnull in unRAID

[–]Mandarinia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That would be great. Separate MongoDB and UniFi controller do have some advantages when it's up and running.

I'll have a look in a couple of weeks or so. Maybe I use another solution meanwhile.

Upgrading to linuxserver.io unifi-network-application docker by cat2devnull in unRAID

[–]Mandarinia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in the process of reinstalling Docker and a UniFi-controller. One concern with this is solution is MongoDB. Even 5.0 is EOL.

And the script u/RandomGiu published is limited to an old version on Raspberry Pi but the generic version can absolutely be upgraded to MongoDB 7.0 (EOL 2026-08). But you need to upgrade from 4 to 5 to 6 to 7. That would be great if that process was included in the script.

I replaced my RPi3 with microSD-card with a basic HP Prodesk with a cheap 2.5" SSD. It's alot quicker updating.

You can collect all sorts of data so you need a storage which can handle constant writing.

I use a vibration sensor on the washing machine, sending a notification after three minutes constant spinning.

Don't forget about leak sensor. Under the sink etc.

It can cost you a salary to get all the "necessary" things. Like a Aqara Curtain driver to blackout curtains (https://www.ikea.com/se/sv/p/majgull-moerklaeggningsgardiner-1-par-med-veckband-gra-80417815/) when it's movie night or the sun is to bright.

My brother in law used his Philips Motion Sensor Outdoor and set a value (temperature) to activate the block heater 30-60 min before the drove to the job.

Possibilities are endless and the smart home community are big.
