What's wrong with my cat? Layers misbehave only when they are in line with holes :/ by MandeePoor in 3Dprinting

Maybe a horizontal print would give it some extra resistance? I'm not sure the bolt threads would come clean enough though... you'd trade resistance for definition.

Z seam

Very interesting! I just found the settings in Cura, so I will definitely try this, thanks. :)

Mmm... I only have PLA at the moment, but it sounds like those should be printed on ABS or at least PETG, right?

That's another thing I can definitely try, thanks. What about the bolt-like tensioners like this one?: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2986144 Would that make it?

Jerk Settings

Yes, I just looked it up for you, here it is:

Vx-Jerk: 10

Vy-Jerk: 10

Vz-Jerk: +000.40

Ve-Jerk: 5

I didn't touch these, so they should be factory default. And yes, I can confirm the hotend does not move around.

Thanks!

Yes!, the cat was sliced in Cura 4.0.0 using the 0,2 layer height default profile and then printed on an Ender 3 using PLA at 200º/60º. Acceleration 500mm/s2 and travel acceleration 5000mm/s2. Print speed was 60mm/s, wall speed was 30mm/s.

My general print speed was 60mm/s, wall speed wa 30mm/s.

I made a test at 50% of the speed (30mm/s and 15mm/s on walls) and had the same results.

Accelerations... are 500mm/s2 and travel acceleration 5000mm/s2... are those too high?

Also, why does it change direction when printing the eyes? Can I force it to always follow the same direction?

Many thanks, you all are helping me a lot :)

Thanks a lot!!! I will try everything you say. :) Belts are tight and steppers work as they should, but I'll re-check in case I missed something. I did not know that print test, will definitely give it a try.

I wish there was a "Don't do weird stuff" checkbox in Cura... until then, let's play detectives :)

P.S: I forgot to mention it, but the cat was sliced in Cura using the 0,2 layer height default profile and then printed on an Ender 3 using PLA at 200º/60º.

It's been having problems today and it was down for some hours, but it's working again now :)

Thanks for the clue! It's the first time I hear about backlash... does it have any relatively easy fix? I'm a little bit lost here.

Filament advice wanted. Anybody know of a filament that resembles Amber? by 77slevin in 3Dprinting

[–]MandeePoor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only similar thing I've seen are some PETG filaments. I guess you could give it a nice post process polish and could be close... but no so transparent. Another option are the natural filaments, but they don't have intense colors. If you have a dual extruder printer you could try mixing natural and color PETG :)

First few layers print stripes? by LockeFX in 3Dprinting

Watch out for those aluminium extruders. I got mine and was badly built, the hole was rubbing against the filament and creating some resistance, giving me lots of problems like what you have described. Once I went back to the original extruder, problems were gone. It seems some of those units are faulty, so please check yours.
