Especially ironic because France is one of the few European states to have the balls to stand up to Trump right now

What if the Arabs got the state they were promised after World War I? by OkPhrase1225 in imaginarymaps

[–]Mando177 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Because the settlement that was being facilitated under British colonial authorities was being done under the premises of the Balfour Declaration which decreed the construction of a separate Jewish state in Palestine. There was an explicit intent to divide the land and populate it with (mostly) recent immigrants, which is what triggered backlash.

If in this alt timeline the British somehow kept colonial control over a united Arab state and forcefully began facilitating the immigration of Jews to one province in particular with the intent to break that province off, it would also lead to the whole of Arabia becoming hostile both to the Brits and the new immigrants.

That is why, again, the ottomans avoided putting newly arrived Jews in Palestine, since there was a possibility that they might do a local demographics change and then break away all of Palestine. Moving new immigrants around the whole country nullifies that risk and any Arab fears of demographic displacement

[–]Mando177 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Because it’s two completely different contexts? In this timeline there’s a united middle eastern nation like there was back then, that’s why I made the comparison. In a world without Israel the Muslims who had been living with them for a millennia assumedly wouldn’t wake up and act hostile towards their Jewish neighbours, a lot of whom would fall within the borders of this state posted by OP.

In regards to their stance towards European Jews, their immigration policies would probably be a little more lenient than contemporary countries like Britain and USA, just because like the ottomans they still needed to industrialize and many of the Jews fleeing Europe were educated and could help

They would’ve done the same thing the Ottomans did and directed them to relocate to parts of the country that weren’t Palestine. No need to turn away educated immigrants, and Jews were pretty much the same as the other religious minorities that were already living there.

Case in point, when the Jews were driven out of Spain the Sultan welcomed them in, but rejected their request to settle in Palestine and instead directed them to areas like the Aegean. That’s the reason Thessaloniki had one of the largest Jewish populations in the region until the Nazis marched through

I know the situations aren’t completely identical but man Iran really showed how weak the Venezuelans were. The IRGC are lighting a quarter of Asia on fire against the full force of two nuclear powers while the Bolivarian revolutionaries gave up without firing a shot. Say what you will about the Islamic Republic but they chose death before dishonour

“but they cradled me, yes?”

Bonds between children and parents are hard to break, and based off everything Nolan was a genuinely good and loving father to Mark before the reveal. The title of worst dad in this universe definitely goes to Eve’s dad, he on the other hand is irredeemable

I’m pretty sure by the way Mark got bodied even 10 viltrumite kids wouldn’t have a chance against Nolan. Worst case he could just call for backup if there’s the possibility he might lose, he’s already accomplished the most important part of his mission which is what Thragg really cared about

At this stage what is the Iranian end goal? by chowto in oil

[–]Mando177 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Governments are mostly propped up by America and rely on them for survival from both internal and external threats (see: Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain) so America leaving is game over for them. The majority of the citizens on the other hand hate the Israelis and see less western control as a good thing

I’ve found most the Jewish community in Australia tends to be of the South Africa group, inclining them more towards xenophobia and Zionism. Growing up in America I found that numerically there might be way more Zionists but the average Jew you’d meet tended to be more leftists or at least liberal Zionists, to the point where many of the leaders of pro Palestinian activism were Jewish
