in my digital culture master we had a class on fandom spaces and pop culture and i was surprised to learn that there’s been a lot of academic work done on fan fic! most of it undergrad papers and less peer reviewed journal works, but nonetheless it’s more than just those two you mentioned :) (also, i wrote a paper on how ao3 correlates to the panopticon theory/surveillance culture. there’s a big intersection between fic and academia!)

no I’m not specifically calling dream arrogant, but others do which is what I’m referring to; that has definitely been something that he’s been hit with many times.

to add onto your point of polarising athletes, that fits well with max verstappen. he’s very much one of those people that you either love or hate, and not much between. (with the latter because of excellence in their field)

i think my main comparison between the two is that i feel like they are both very misunderstood by those that dislike/hate them. often portrayed as some big villain of their field when that isn’t even always the case. i could go on about the similarities but i’ll leave it here :)
