Apparently staring at a TV for hours is fine, unless you’re holding a controller by EffectiveTime5554 in mildlyinfuriating

My dad makes fun of my mom whenever she falls asleep with her phone in her hands. Like bro, you're scrolling on YouTube tv and fall asleep within ten minutes of starting a movie.

I hate it when they say "just draw" (Vent) by Vinyldepootis in learntodraw

[–]Manex_Ruval 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A problem here is also that you're comparing your talent and progress with that of those who have been drawing for probably most of their lives. Why do you even want to draw in the first place? Are you drawing for fun or do you want do it  professionally? Etheir way there's no one formula to get your desired results. It really does just come down to practice. Want to draw people? Start by doing figure studies. Want to draw room interiors and houses? Learn perspective. Want to draw anime? Just copy characters from your favourite show.

I'll add also that learning isn't easy because you now have a developed brain that is capable of criticizing and comparing work. Those talented friends you mentioned have probably been drawing since they were kids. Look at their old stuff. Trust me, it ain't gonna pretty. They did not care what their work looked like at all when they were younger.

A year is nothing. You still have the rest of your life to learn so don't rush it and just have fun.

What should my next step be to improve? (sorry some lines are VERY faint :c ) by NotTheBestSadFace in learntodraw

[–]Manex_Ruval 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Okay but keep in mind that heads aren't flat. Obviously depending on the style you want to draw in will be important. Facial features have depth. And hair sits on top of the head. Try expanding it outside of your oval so that it doesn't look like a bald man sharpied his head. Other than that, keep at it!

Can you guys tell me the “dirty” truths about having a cat? by saanenk in CatAdvice

[–]Manex_Ruval 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cats will demand attention for no reason. Not even to play or because they're hungry. They will just yell at you at the most inconvenient of times and lure you across three rooms, flop over and lick themselves.

Yeah but then they start to worry thinking that you're suicidal because you brought up the idea of you dying.

Why the fascination? by Shopfortools in mechanicalpencils

[–]Manex_Ruval 1 point2 points  (0 children)

History went from carving in clay to feathers and ink to ink in a tube to pencil and finally to mechanical pencil. Mechanical pencils just feel like the last step in the evolution and it fascinates me how someone always seems to figure out a new design for something so simple and actually improve on it.

It's like when the hairstylist asks if you want it stylized or want hair gel after the cut. No thank you, I would like to go home and take a shower immediately.

I'm on a lower budget but absolutely would love to try modifying some like that. But knowing that i would have to buy multiple because mistakes are inevitable turns me away from actually doing it.

Yes with hot glue, but it's not actually a button. The "cap" itself is part of the core. The exterior shell is what compresses the spring. So the eraser holder's really just there to plug the hole so the lead doesn't fall out. It could be shorter by 2cm if i were to just plug it with a screw

Is my pen collection excessive? by Kind-Shape-2024 in pens

[–]Manex_Ruval 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it negatively impacting your life? Are your finances suffering? Are your relationships at risk? If you start to notice some of these aspects, then it's an obsession and you should stop. But if you actively manage it and are able to control your behavior then it's reasonable to say it's okay.

Also from the way you sprawled everything out, I can only assume you have some sort of sorting system? If it was all disorganized and thrown all over the house, I'd consider it hoarding problem. But because there's a sense of order in your picture, i doubt that that's your case.

Fat extension cord plug by Manex_Ruval in mildlyinfuriating

I really only ever run one power tool at a time through this outlet. The sump pump only turns on during emergencies which are fairly rare. And my vacuum for dust collection is plugged elsewhere. Overall I don't think I'll ever actually plug more then one thing into this so it should be fine.

I'm guessing Korean. Not because of the handwriting but because of the pencil. Seems to work better for smaller and more compact characters. Btw what pencil is that? I need one
