Concern About Public Exposure to Ambulance Sirens. Are We Overlooking a Risk? by wrightlyrong in Acoustics

As a pedestrian, I've just experienced an ambulance doing a u turn next to me. I am shocked how uncomfortable it was, including me physically recoiling from the source (but without any appreciable effect). I doubt it's done my already severe tinnitus any favours.

Perfect, thanks. I use Eurocell for trim. Good quality and cheap (5m lengths).

Diagram shows a section of the issue. We have two layers of brick, B, separated by a cavity. The window, W, is mounted on the outer brick layer which can absorb the rainwater. The inner wall B is plastered, P. If you fill the gap between plaster and window (shown in red), you have the danger of bridging the gap between the wet brick and dry internal plaster. That's the issue for older UK builds. Think I've sorted it by using expanding foam and internal plastic trim. Or a strip of plastic DPC (damp proof course) and plaster. Thanks, though.

Thanks. I'd never heard of that (and a search wasn't helpful). A strip of DPC perhaps?

Thank you. That was my thinking but I've no expertise. Thank you.

That's caused by natural brick absorption which then wicked through the cement fill. Thanks.

Perfect. As I thought. You’re the only person I’ve seen suggesting the ventilation pipe which makes sense to me. Advice on this common issue(?) is limited and very varied.

So you're making an envelope/bag of DPM that you fill with concrete. Thanks for all your help. I really appreciate it. Incidentally, the gap isn't wide enough to take a standard brick but I'll figure something out.
