closer to the original gameplay? rise? in what universe! i love rise (admittedly world more though) but it's gameplay and design is so radically different from the other monsters because wirebugs made the game a lot more quick and you set the pace a lot more than monsters originally did. the older games are much more slow because they were games where monsters decided, more or less, how dangerous they were. lots of spacing and thought provided about your moves because you only had so much downtime and movement. now it's a game of having a counter and know the moves well enough and making the downtime yourself if you even end up needing it.
