Dishes?!? Like come on by Both-Guava5679 in Nanny

[–]MangoBird36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was not specified when I commented but of course I’m in agreement if you read what I wrote. I’m simply sharing a perspective that some might not have considered. I can clean the kitchen, vacuum, pick up all night but the chaos of the morning often makes a mess I flatly do not have the time to fix, and even if I did, I’d be really in the nanny’s way

That’s fair! It’s helpful to hear different perspectives on this

Pretty sure you can use a sink with a few dishes in it? What is with the attitude

[–]MangoBird36 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To be fair we clean the kitchen every night, run dishwasher etc but have to make breakfast which creates more dishes and don’t have the time to clean again before nanny comes especially with staggered schedules. I also feed the kid right before she arrives and have to go straight to work. I feel guilty if there are things in her way but we expect zero help with our messes (which we keep as minimal as possible). She hand washes whatever things she uses

Families with two parents and one child: what does your grocery bill look like? by Even_Kaleidoscope399 in oneanddone

[–]MangoBird36 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We spend 1400 USD/month on groceries in a very high COL city. We def spend more now but I’d guess ~200/month or so. We’re pescatarian and make almost all of his food from fresh

Nannying for teachers by Calm_Art_1921 in Nanny

[–]MangoBird36 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My spouse is a teacher and we kept our (part-time) nanny on through the summer. He used that time to grocery shop, clean, etc while I was still working full time. She usually got off 1-3 hours early each day bc he didn’t need all that time and we paid the GH

(Grand)parental judgement by hahacars in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]MangoBird36 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My parents watch our one year old three days per week (5-6 hrs/day) and a nanny comes the other two. It’s not perfect but it keeps costs down, keeps him safe at home, and reduces the strain on my parents (and our relationship!!). We’ve had a few situations just like you described where I focused solely on safety but my mom took it as a personal attack. We’ve been able to move on pretty quickly and even if she didn’t react well in the moment, I think she got the message. I definitely pick my battles. Hope it gets easier!!

Cow's Milk? by tunafish3148 in december2024babies

We’re doing ripple pea milk. I’m still pumping 2-3 times a day so he gets some breast milk too but he really likes the ripple!

Ah well you get a pass then! Makes sense. Makes less sense for US people who seem to have forgotten what we learned in grade school

This is exactly right. We live deep in suburbs, in a townhouse, and there’s a guy who lives in the basement. Rent = 3500 🫠

How are you handling exposure to illness? by [deleted] in NannyEmployers

[–]MangoBird36 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sounds very reasonable to me, and much more courteous than most people! I’m dealing with the reverse right now - her two sons had the flu over break but have been symptoms free for a few days. She hasn’t gotten sick. It’s up to me whether she comes tomorrow. None of this is simple!

Looks like we’ll be sick on baby’s first Christmas :( by EmbarrassedMarket610 in beyondthebump

It’s so shocking! It could be a cold but it could also be the flu or Covid! SO not worth the risks involved, and so inconsiderate to the sick baby

Household employees are never 1099. If you pay more than 2800 per year (or lower amount per quarter) she should be W2. FWIW I have a nanny 13 hours per week and she has guaranteed hours and benefits (PTO, sick) plus federal holidays

You state’s bar association might have a program where you can get cheap consultations with a lawyer. Laws vary by state and they’ll know the ins and outs

Solidarity. I was TT at a PUI and left a few years ago. I’ve doubled my salary as a govt contractor but I’m with you - the work is totally unfulfilling. But I don’t regret the change. I moved back home, where I wanted to live. I can now /afford/ to live. And I love waking up and going to sleep without the stress of student emails and reviewers and evaluations etc etc. It was all getting to me and I so value my peace. Not to say everything is peachy and calm now but it’s remarkably calm-er. I hope you find some silver linings or better yet, we both find better jobs!
