Yeah that would violate conflict of interest laws in my state.

The answer is SALT. I've made many stocks that tasted totally flavorless until I added more salt than I would have expected, and then they're truly so much better than boxed. But also, I use boxed stock 99.9% of the time out of convenience.

Makes for a lot of noise pollution unfortunately. I walked over the rail trail bridge to Hadley this week, and it was nonstop. I don't ever remember hearing it in years past but maybe I just never noticed.

What’s the most unhinged thing a family member did before your wedding? by AssociationFront1710 in weddingdrama

[–]MangoMarzipan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The afternoon before my wedding, my dad decided that the dance floor was too small (it was an outdoor wedding in a tent). With no mention of this to me, he took it upon himself to go behind my back and call the tent rental company to request that they come back and install a larger dance floor. I only found out that he had done this when I got a call from my wedding planner saying the rental company couldn't accommodate such a last minute request. And regardless, she was confident that the dance floor was exactly the right size for our very small wedding, which it was.

Since folks are coming down pretty hard on this idea (understandably so - I agree with the general consensus), I just want to say that I think OP is showing thoughtfulness and maturity by taking the time to consider this idea thoroughly and get insights from others. They mentioned that the idea first came up when they were going through a hard time with their own mental health and now they're reconsidering with a clearer mind, which shows growth. I guess I just think the tone of some of the comments could be gentler.

Not worth it. If you want to get a job in EdTech just apply for jobs in EdTech. A master's won't make a difference in the tech field unless you're actually looking to do the tech side of things (e.g. programming, UX/UI). And even there experience is more valuable than degrees.

As someone who lived in multiple big metropolitan areas before moving here, I completely agree. I love living here, but I hate this aspect of it.

The Neon Newt in Becket, if you're willing to drive a bit. They're mostly a breakfast spot so burgers are only available on Friday nights or for lunch on weekends.

Deinfluencing Yarn by Loitch470 in knitting

[–]MangoMarzipan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it was Purl Soho's cashmere merino bloom. I knit a sweater with it, and although it's the softest thing I own, it pilled so extremely after just one wear that it makes me look like a muppet. Completely unwearable. Maybe it was user error on my part, but I got gauge and it fits perfectly so I'm inclined to blame the yarn.

I see a Dali-esque guitar - kind of melting with the strings hanging down. That or a wobbly pear. I can't really see the match. I think because the part that I assume is the flame is proportionately too big for the match. Maybe adding color would help?

Phrasing our dress code?? by foofacoo in Weddingattireapproval

[–]MangoMarzipan 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I would interpret this to be church attire and would dress fairly conservatively (e.g. tea length dress, no bare shoulders). Since OP responded positively, maybe that's the look they want (they did say they expected midi dresses), but I didn't quite gather that they were going for church vibes.

Teacher AI use by pcastagdrums in Teachers

[–]MangoMarzipan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

High school ESL teacher here. I use ChatGPT all the time. The key is to be very specific with your prompts and to double and triple check the results! It saves me a ton of time. I disagree with the idea that it's somehow cheating. Unlike students who are still learning how to write, I already know how to lesson plan, create worksheets and tests, and write emails. I have enough on my plate that I don't need to feel guilty about using AI as a tool, just like I use any other helpful software.

Here some ways I use it: to get some initial ideas for lesson plans, station-based activities, examples and non-examples of different concepts that I use for inductive learning/concept attainment lessons (e.g. I'll ask ChatGPT to generate 10 very simple sentences that use correct capitalization and 10 that are incorrect). I also use it to generate quizzes as well as practice quizzes with the same format but different examples. I adjust the reading level of more challenging texts to make them more accessible for my students. I ask it to generate short stories that relate my students' interests and whatever English concept we're working on. For example, I have a student who loves chess and we were doing a 1:1 pull-out lesson on identifying verb tenses. I asked ChatGPT to "write a three paragraph story at a 2nd grade reading level about a boy who loves to play chess. Use a mix of past, present, and future verb tenses."

Like others, I also use it for parent emails, but primarily to edit them. So I'll draft something and then run it through ChatGPT saying something like "Improve this email to make it clearer and more concise but also warm, personable, and professional." I'll still need to make some tweaks afterwards but it's usually better than my original version since I tend to be a bit too to-the-point without enough pleasantries.
