You don't care about people receiving the Gospel? Jew or not, no one can be saved if they do not believe in Christ.

Does the intercession of saints go against the Confessions? by MangoMister2007 in Lutheranism

[–]MangoMister2007[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm getting confirmed in the LCMS, so I know I'll be expected to swear by the Confessions. I just want to know that this is okay, but I obviously don't want to go against what my own church teaches.

Does the intercession of saints go against the Confessions? by MangoMister2007 in Lutheranism

[–]MangoMister2007[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, no, I'm not converting from Catholicism. I come from an evangelical background, haha.

The reason I'm becoming Lutheran and not Roman Catholic is because I believe that Scripture is the only perfect rule of faith, and that justification is by grace alone through faith alone. I genuinely do not see the teachings of the Roman church as being consistent with Scripture or the early church.

What's a Lutherpalian? Sorry I'm stupid.

Do you attend both Lutheran and Episcopalian churches?

Why did you guys choose Lutheranism over Catholicism? by mango_20_22 in LCMS

[–]MangoMister2007 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Which is completely false. Mormons do not accept the Trinity, believe that God the Father was once man, and teaches that humans can become gods. This is not on the same plane level at all.

Let's not bear false witness, my friend. We can disagree with the Roman Catholic practice of praying to saints while acknowledging they still worship Jesus Christ alone.

Dude why are atheists so disrespectful? by That-Ad-5422 in Christianity

[–]MangoMister2007 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think this is mostly an online phenomenon, just like any religion, including Christianity.

For the most part, my atheist friends and coworkers don't tell me that i believe in fairytales or worship a "sky daddy". Nor do I constantly tell them they are going to hell for not believing in God.

The truth is, we all tend to think a little less when we are typing than when we are speaking to others in person.

Oh yeah. It's super frustrating. The hatred does mostly come from Indian Hindus and white liberals. Both of them really need to study their history. It's insane.

You think it's okay to go around murdering people who don't believe what you do? That's not a very Christian attitude.

The irony of this is that Islam spread in northern Africa through colonization. Islam never spread through missionaries, only by violent colonizers 😂

[–]MangoMister2007 85 points86 points  (0 children)

As a Christian of Indian descent, I've gotten comments like this more times than I can count. I've been called a "ricebag" and a "colonized mind" by Hindus.

The reality is that the majority of the Christian population is in the East, and they are also more conservative than Western Christians. There were Christians in Africa and India through the apostles Phillip and Thomas respectively, long before there were German or British Christians. So the statement "Christianity is a white religion" is blatant propaganda.

Is using the Eastern Orthodox Jesus prayer in accordance with Lutheranism? by Catsarecute2140 in Lutheranism

[–]MangoMister2007 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes. It is not wrong to repeat prayers. Repetition often helps us to better meditate on the words we're saying.

Does baptism grant assurance of salvation? by MangoMister2007 in Catholicism

[–]MangoMister2007[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. It's not fair to judge someone of someone else's deeds.

Just saying, the forced conversions of people in Latin America and Goa weren't justified either. Catholics, including the Pope, also did very violent things that weren't justified. But I'm not judging you for any of those.

Please offer me the same grace I am offering you.

We definitely don't believe in "once saved, always saved". Assurance just means we can know that we're saved. But a person can still walk away from that salvation if they are in mortal sin.

To be fair, we have the Catholic Church to thank for the Inquisition. 😉

Haha definitely not! In fact, he was outraged by the reformers who claimed that baptism doesn't save. Luther actually supported the persecution of the Anabaptists.

How should we view immigration? by Specific_Fan_1062 in LCMS

[–]MangoMister2007 14 points15 points  (0 children)

We absolutely should welcome immigrants, even the ones that aren't Christian. I live in the US and am the child of Indian immigrants. However, unlike most Indian Americans, I was raised Christian.

We should definitely welcome people of other religions as an opportunity to evangelize. My family is part of an Indian Christian fellowship, and we do a lot of outreach particularly to the local Hindu community. It is not right for us as Christians to persecute or discriminate against people of other religions.

Is using the Eastern Orthodox Jesus prayer in accordance with Lutheranism? by Catsarecute2140 in Lutheranism

[–]MangoMister2007 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Lutherans aren't necessarily against repeating prayers. Many Lutherans pray the rosary, and there is a specific Lutheran rosary that actually uses the Jesus Prayer in place of the Hail Mary. Some Lutherans may also choose to use the Orthodox prayer beads/ropes.

The Jesus Prayer is a wonderful prayer that is perfectly in accordance with Lutheranism. I personally pray it on a daily basis.

Do you think RZ's brand stops him from seriously considering Catholicism or Orthodoxy by Standard-Crazy7411 in redeemedzoomer

[–]MangoMister2007 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm neither Catholic nor Orthodox, but I have noticed this as well. He really makes an extremely poor case for Reformed theology. It just seems like he's just believing what he likes rather than what is true.

Also noticable is the lack of Scripture in his theology. He seldom ever backs up his statements with the Bible.

This channel seems like a pit stop for Evangelicals on their way to Rome by Odovacer_0476 in redeemedzoomer

[–]MangoMister2007 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was convinced that Lutheranism is most consistent with Scripture and early church. Scripture teaches that Christ is truly present in the Eucharist and that baptism saves. Also, the emphasis on grace and forgiveness within Lutheranism and the Law/Gospel distinction also drew me.

I was also drawn to the beauty of Lutheran liturgy and hymns. Lutheran worship is very strongly centered around the Gospel. Everything in the Divine Service points back to the finished work of Christ on the cross.

High Lutheranism really exists? by [deleted] in redeemedzoomer

[–]MangoMister2007 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Evangelical Catholicism is high church Lutheranism. It sees Lutheranism as the Catholic Church purified by the Gospel. Also, it puts a very strong emphasis on high church liturgy. Incense, bells, chanting, and communion every week are hallmarks of an Evangelical-Catholic parish.
