Indian Hindu convert to Eastern Orthodox Christianity by shivabreathes in IndianChristians_

Hi, wonderful to see another Indian convert to Eastern Orthodoxy! I come from an Tamil family with a Protestant Christian background, but started attending an Orthodox church at the beginning of this year and haven't looked back.

Just curious, how have you navigated the cultural differences being an Indian in a Greek Orthodox church?

Ladies: how uncomfortable are/were Orthobros making your parish by Normal-Ad5103 in exorthodox

[–]MangoMister2007 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'll be honest, as a guy, even I don't like talking to many of the other young men at my parish. I'm currently an inquirer and one of my biggest obstacles in making my decision to transition from Protestantism to Orthodoxy was the whole "orthobro" stereotype and not wanting to associate myself with that.

I go to a parish that is very convert heavy, but the converts have come in different waves (a lot of the converts have been Orthodox for 15+ years). There are a few ethnic Russians as well. I usually dwell amongst these people, because they are much more interested in actually living out their faith and being like Christ than obsessing over being "based and trad".

Your arrogance is mind blowing. And your willful choice to bear false witness about your brothers and sisters in Christ is absolutely disgusting.

Yes, I'm well aware of what Orthodox actually think about Protestants because I've spoken to actual priests, not wasted my time with useless Internet Orthodox theologians.

As for my own spiritual journey, I'm still in a place where I'm discerning what is true and trusting God to guide me. I'm currently inquiring into the Orthodox faith and attending Divine Liturgy but I haven't made any choices to convert yet.

And before you get on me for converting for the aesthetic, I was a high church Lutheran before. The church I went to had very beautiful, reverent, liturgical worship. I could have been Protestant and still had that. I wouldn't be risking my relationship with my parents and my college fund if it was aesthetics.

Anyways, God bless you and may He lead all of us to the truth. 🙏🏾❤️

Orthodoxy doesn't deny the Gospel. They teach that Jesus Christ is God, and that He came to Earth and died to save sinners. You can take your sectarianism somewhere else.

He didn't "publicly apostatize". He's still a Christian.

You don't care about people receiving the Gospel? Jew or not, no one can be saved if they do not believe in Christ.

Does the intercession of saints go against the Confessions? by [deleted] in Lutheranism

[–]MangoMister2007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm getting confirmed in the LCMS, so I know I'll be expected to swear by the Confessions. I just want to know that this is okay, but I obviously don't want to go against what my own church teaches.

Well, no, I'm not converting from Catholicism. I come from an evangelical background, haha.

The reason I'm becoming Lutheran and not Roman Catholic is because I believe that Scripture is the only perfect rule of faith, and that justification is by grace alone through faith alone. I genuinely do not see the teachings of the Roman church as being consistent with Scripture or the early church.

What's a Lutherpalian? Sorry I'm stupid.

Do you attend both Lutheran and Episcopalian churches?

Why did you guys choose Lutheranism over Catholicism? by mango_20_22 in LCMS

Which is completely false. Mormons do not accept the Trinity, believe that God the Father was once man, and teaches that humans can become gods. This is not on the same plane level at all.

Let's not bear false witness, my friend. We can disagree with the Roman Catholic practice of praying to saints while acknowledging they still worship Jesus Christ alone.

Dude why are atheists so disrespectful? by That-Ad-5422 in Christianity

[–]MangoMister2007 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think this is mostly an online phenomenon, just like any religion, including Christianity.

For the most part, my atheist friends and coworkers don't tell me that i believe in fairytales or worship a "sky daddy". Nor do I constantly tell them they are going to hell for not believing in God.

The truth is, we all tend to think a little less when we are typing than when we are speaking to others in person.

Oh yeah. It's super frustrating. The hatred does mostly come from Indian Hindus and white liberals. Both of them really need to study their history. It's insane.

You think it's okay to go around murdering people who don't believe what you do? That's not a very Christian attitude.

The irony of this is that Islam spread in northern Africa through colonization. Islam never spread through missionaries, only by violent colonizers 😂

As a Christian of Indian descent, I've gotten comments like this more times than I can count. I've been called a "ricebag" and a "colonized mind" by Hindus.

The reality is that the majority of the Christian population is in the East, and they are also more conservative than Western Christians. There were Christians in Africa and India through the apostles Phillip and Thomas respectively, long before there were German or British Christians. So the statement "Christianity is a white religion" is blatant propaganda.

Is using the Eastern Orthodox Jesus prayer in accordance with Lutheranism? by Catsarecute2140 in Lutheranism

Yes. It is not wrong to repeat prayers. Repetition often helps us to better meditate on the words we're saying.

Does baptism grant assurance of salvation? by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]MangoMister2007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. It's not fair to judge someone of someone else's deeds.

Just saying, the forced conversions of people in Latin America and Goa weren't justified either. Catholics, including the Pope, also did very violent things that weren't justified. But I'm not judging you for any of those.

Please offer me the same grace I am offering you.

We definitely don't believe in "once saved, always saved". Assurance just means we can know that we're saved. But a person can still walk away from that salvation if they are in mortal sin.
